PAP's recent concerted effort to justify more foreign workers

some of you may have noticed that there is a concerted effort by the government to justify more FT. The brainwashing comes from different angle, some are subtle, and some are more in-your-face type of propaganda. But I think the widespread use of internet is blowing a big hole into this propaganda campaign. A quick list of what I noticed, please add on.

1. $3k dishwasher, $7k taxi driver. Slightly subtle way of saying sinkies have many high paying jobs even for lowend jobs, hence more immigrants will not make sinkies suffer more.

2. A long study that praised the Finnish education system, and highlighting the the Finnish school has 50% immigrants. Trying to imply that immigrants improve the quality of education in Finland, and hence sinkie schools should allow even more immigrants.

3. Getting the more powerful foreign chambers of commence to publicly complain about the uncertainties of impending restrictions on inflow of foreign workers.

4. Scaring sinkies on costs and problems of aging population without any further huge influx of foreign workers. Additional cost of $13b required for aging population by 2025 being one of such "news".

I think sometime earlier this year, the old man and son decided that they will not restrict the inflow of foreign workers because of potential impact on property prices, GDP growth and hence their perceived basic tenet for continued one-party dominance.

Their key strategy now is to convince sinkies to accept their decision before 2016 election, failing which more draconian internet controls may be considered. Thus far, their coordinated propaganda is not be achieving the desired result, largely because their propaganda strategists are stuck in pre-internet age and clumsy execution at braddell brothel, a result of prolonged inbreeding.

Not really surprised by this. Didn't think LHL's apology was sincere
Even if it was, he has a very short memory.

If Sporeans want real change they will have to kick out the PAP.

He was sincere in apologising that he will do better ... in his propaganda

Has anyone thought there might be a chance that the PAP policy of importing foreigners is actually very sound and is Singapore's only hope of survival?

Yes indeed, w/o these foreigners, Singapore would have collapsed to be a third or even fourth world nation.

If importing such sound policy.. why Japan still not do it?
And y even in USA, they dun wan immigrants to come in like water from a tap?
i may be wrong la, but sg seem to be a "unique" country where the foreigners account for hor.. like.. 30% of total population.. in USA, roughly 13% are foreigners
UK has roughly over 11%, Australia has around 24% foreigners
why does foreigner population number in sg higher than those above countries??

even in europe, foreign numbers dun even come close to Sg's leh..

There is a free flow of labour within the EU. It is one big happy family. Citizens from the basket case economies cross borders to work in countries such as Germany and the end result is a win-win for both parties.

In Europe there is ample space. Take the UK for example. The natives and the well healed have their homes far away from the cities. During the week, they take the train in or put up in city apartments. 2nd generation migrants who have adopted their new culture follow a similar lifestyle.

There is space and a sufficient holding yard. Singapore does not have that. Its very similar in nearly all the destination countries where migrants are valued and welcomed.

Singaporeans are not evil or bigoted. The tipping point was reached long time ago. I was told by a young lady that she struggles each morning to take an overcrowded lift and returns late at night to a lift that has so much of litter nearly every night. In the past when she was young, it was once on a while. Yet her parents home has gone up in value many time over and for what.

You speak as though the high population density of sinkieland is a product of happenstance. Go and ask Christmas Islanders whether they lack space on an island one fifth the size of Sinkieland. Absolute size is not as critical to the well-being of residents as population density.

This is the favourite PAP straw-man argument to counter the unhappiness of allowing too many new immigrants. It has been used and thoroughly debunked so frequently that even the most diehard PAP supporters are starting to realise it.

Few people are against foreign workers. The dissatisfaction is against too many immigrants to the extend that quality of life of Singaporeans is lowered.

There is also widespread unhappiness against the NS policy that greatly disadvantaged Singaporean males vis-a-vis foreigners. The recent pennies thrown at NSmen is yet another reflection of LHL nonchalant attitude towards this grossly unfair treatment of locals.

some times I wonder if the desire for economic growth is to a partly driven by the competition between old man and Mahathir.

Mahathir may eventually get the last laugh in his grave when sinkieland implode after the social fabric is shredded after many years of misguided immigrant policy.

It's happened in the past. The Brits allowed the population to grow from a Malay fishing village to a teeming mass of humanity by letting in boatloads of coolies from Southern China.

Was the quality of life lowered or did it lift the economy 10 fold and move Singapore from 3rd world to 1st in one generation?

Another clever iteration of PAP's argument. Let's illustrate how this argument works:

A person drinks a few glasses of water per day to hydrate adequately. Hence 100 glasses of water a day is good for the body.

In fact, WW2 japanese water boarding torture was actually meant to benefit and detox dehydrated prisoners :*:

Everyone has their own views of what's just right. At the end of the day, it's the results that count. Singapore is an exciting, vibrant and wealthy nation thanks to the recent influx. There is no concrete evidence that it cannot support a population of 6.5 million or more.

It is true that the infrastructure has a bit of catching up to do but I have full confidence in the PAP that this will soon be a thing of the past and everyone will be happy and wealthy once the dust has settled.

The decision makers are living in rich man areas like Bt Timah, Tanglin and Istana, where resident density is highly controlled. So 6.5mil residents by 2020 to these pigs sounds reasonable.

Not to mention that a oversupplied labour market will continue to boost the wealth and income of the ruling class.

In any society, it is the decision makers that matter as they're the ones who are responsible for the progress of the nation. It is therefore perfectly reasonable that their interests should be taken care of above that of the lower strata of society.
