don’t be fooled by “4 days”. 12-hr shift per work day is no joke. 48 hours a week is over the 40-hr work week allowed by cal labor and osha. over that, it’s voluntary and employer must pay overtime rates. this is coolie and peasant work condition.

I have worked at A&E 12h shifts everyday Mon to Sun. 7am to 7pm.

Yeah is DAMN TIRING. Wake up go work. Come home eat. Go sleep. Repeat. No life. But I did it voluntarily. Lasted 4 months.

Especially during the Avian Flu time around 2009?

I think my record for number of patients seen in a day at OPS was 96. Start 830am and end at 5pm. There is a break 12 to 1pm for lunch if I remember correctly.

96/7.5= 12.8 patients an hour 4 min 41 sec per patient on average. It CAN be done.

amazon fullfillment associate job is 10 hrs a day for 4 days a week in 1 of 4 shifts. tues, wed, thurs, fri shift from 6:9am to 6:9pm (1 hr lunch plus 2 30 mins break) pays $16.9 an hr. constantly on the move in the warehouse.

The response will be interesting. On the one hand, the govt there is NOT offering employment contracts to their
doctors, even at their own low rates. So, we may get the leftovers of those not offered. The employed doctors may
not want to come, no matter how big the salary - they may not have a job when their SG contract ends.

My uncle's orfit ambassador job follow this law with some shift allowance and any extra hours will be paid in ot . Coincidentallee my uncle's pay is also $3.5k :tongue:

I asked MOH and MOM before. They said sorry don't apply to you Drs. Drs considered professionals so apparently supposed to be able to negotiate contracts and terms with employers on their own. No need MOM protection.

When I was an MO working in a HO/MO department (basically it has no houseman only MOs who double as both HO and MO) there were only 3 of us MOs. Hence the regular call schedule was 1 in 4. And we would do double weekend calls too ie BOTH Saturday and Sunday on call. ie go in on Sat morning only go home Monday evening.

How many hours a week is that? eg Monday on call work 7am go home Tuesday 7pm 36h, Wed 7am to 7pm 12h, Thursday on call work 7am go home Friday 7pm 36h. Sat and Sun double call go to work Sat 7am go home Mon 7pm 60h. Total how many hours ? 36+12+36+60 = 144h in 8 days.

Who is covered under Part IV​

As long as Malaysia is weak, Singapore will prosper. We are weakening Malaysia indirectly, day after day for there is excess of resources in Malaysia.

Doctors and nurses should be paid more, those working in public hospitals anyway to attract more people to do the (sometimes thankless) jobs.
I was hospitalized recently due to a vaccination issue(started having issues after the 2nd jab).

Was in the A&E for a few times, i guess being overworked and constantly drawn to others issues took its toll on my health and even family.

Back to the medical staff, all had really black faces and always in a rush (this was in a hospital in the North), basically quite a few aunties or uncles were left there in the gurney as they were really short staffed. I was also sent to the x-ray lab even though they weren't prepped and had to be resent there twice.

Throughout the time there at A&E, many aunties were calling for food and drink as they had to wait very long inside, luckily my wife sent me some food as although they do have crackers there, there wasn't anything more aside for those to be warded(who will have simple food).

I offered to share some of my sandwiches to an auntie and was informed that she had to be NBM (Nil by mouth) as she may be operated on soon. Another uncle beside me wetted himself and his bed as everyone was rushing around with the large numbers of patient in the A&E. I had to call out several times before someone noticed and helped him clean and change. Maybe to keep me quiet (asking staff to help them and translating for the old), they pushed me midway to a quiet area where there was lesser patients.

Back to the standards and quality, my father in law was badly mistreated by KTPH staff when he was there, feedback to them was essentially swept under the rug and the Malaysian nurse who threatened and shouted at him was shielded and protected. They changed the roster and the staff list as soon as it was brought to our attention that following a bathing incident in which my father in law refused to be bathed, they swung his legs back (they were planning to forcibly move him) and when we raised this, they dismissed this as a dementia related issue. I spoke in length with him many times, wanted to raise this but his oldest son refused and feared the hospital staff. Instead of raising issues for his own father, he was busy giving out name cards and asking for contracts from the hospital.

Anyways, my experience with some of the foreign nurses hasn't been good, one time at a supposedly good healthcare facility in Orchard road, while taking blood from me after a previous night fasting period, they could not find my vein on my left hand. Hence they pushed a needle in anyway and moved the needle from left to right inside in an effort to find the vein, after trying a few times, the back of my left hand was a mess. A local nurse came and found it straightaway, was gone in just 1-2 minutes. The Pinoy nurse who could not find my vein even scolded me for having "invisible" veins and asked me why i was so pale. Who wouldn't right?

Don't get me wrong, there are competent people around no matter their nationality, just that i tend to get the unfortunate ones.

Another one, a dentist from Malaysia, after knowing the depth of my medical and insurance coverage, he did a battery of tests on me. (This was at a large swanky dentist office in Paragon) He said to me that Singaporeans are fussy and demanding. Then suggested i take out all 8 teeth and have implants. He also put on some flouride cream on my front tooth (charged $100).

All in all that day, i spent about $800 just for cleaning, some x rays and recommendation to replace a large number of my teeth. In his mind, i must have been a good opportunity to fulfil his kpi. Luckily i sought a 2nd opinion and use my 2nd insurance plan for the other dentist. A neighbourhood dentist saw and told me the majority could be saved and i didn't need to be in a rush to extract so many. Hence if i had listened to the first dentist, it wouldn't have been fortunate for me.

Not all foreigners are like that i am sure, especially for those who converted and joined us.

Just quite a few who are "forced" to be here, grab drivers from Malaysia cursing our government and drivers here, foreigners with PRs who take Google courses with allowance from the government. There is always some kind of comparison and unhappiness with us even though most of us are ok with them competing for the scarce resources here. Both my wife and myself were bullied quite a few times by foreigners (some IT guys who claim to be gurus but needed us to teach them, thereafter learning enough experienced, jumped ship to a bank of certain standards) or by Malaysians who claimed to have been bulled by others before. (we always treated Malaysians well, regarded them as our own and even spent years in Malaysia and hired them in our business).

Just that there is a sense of inadequacy where they always need to prove that they are better than anyone. Had quite a number of times, hearing them claiming their mandarin is even better than China or Taiwan, just smiled and walked away when they claimed that the Ming came before Song dynasty. So much for claiming to be from a vaunted Chinese school. Of course the vast majority are not like that, but it is still enough to spoil their reputation unfortunately.

I seriously feel that Singapore government is really kind enough to them, can we as foreigners in their country take fully subsidized courses with $1200-$1500 monthly allowance in their country? Just sad that to some of them, its a one way street in terms of appreciation. One of my friends attended the GCP course and told me many foreigners who had PR applied and were accepted. In the beginning, they were told its for Singaporeans only. Many of these people including from certain countries just turn on their camera for attendance and never submit their Coursera and project coursework. They even laughed at our government for being stupid. It is a waste of our tax payers monies when we have people so unappreciative of the chances that they are given. Anyway i digressed enough, its Friday. Finally, fabulously fantastically fun Friday!
