Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday he fully agrees with Mr Khaw’s explanation that a 6.9 million population is not a target, but just a worst-case, aggressive scenario the Government must prepare for.
In a Facebook post, Mr Lee said the Government needs to plan consciously and responsibly for the future, so that Singaporeans can continue to enjoy a good quality of life and that Singapore continues to thrive.
The 6.9 Fiasco continues, with the government now saying that the 6.9 million is not a target per se but rather a figure used for planning purposes only. If they have not been able to solve problems which face Singaporeans daily for the past few years, how can they see up to 2030? By PM Lee's own admission, they did not have the foresight, where the current problems are concerned. And now the same people are making a pitch for something for 2030? Do they even know what they are talking about?
Or is it a simple place of "miscommunication" as they now/will claim when furore continues? If the government is unable to communicate on what has been described as "a threathening crisis of life time" by Vivan Balakrishnan, then how are they going to be able to lead the project? The lack lustre unveiling by DPM Teo And Khaw Boon Wan was most uninspiring and sounded more like a chore that they had to go through.
The White Paper quoted no authorities, research, statistics to back up the data presented - surely for a crisis that is supposed to affect Singapore's longetivity, one would expect something more substantive? Looks more like another of those propaganda papers disguised as White Paper to help achieve whatever the hidden objectives of the PAP.
