A society that takes good care of the Elderly will sort itself out...thats my belief though it may not be the same as the PAP current leadership..

At his Budget 2013 speech, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam had shared that, “many in our present day older generation of Singaporeans had very little education – barely half were able to go beyond primary school. Their pay was very low in the first few decades of our development. Younger Singaporeans have benefitted from vastly-improved opportunities in education with the bulk of them going on to tertiary study. As a result, a disproportionate number of middle- and high-paying jobs are taken up by younger Singaporeans while older Singaporeans (those aged 55 years and above) make up more than 40% of workers in the bottom fifth of the income ladder.”

He also said that for retirees, “As they depend on their savings to finance their daily expenses, they are most affected by rising costs. Many worry about being a burden to their children.”

These are two very real issues faced by our older Singaporeans, who are trapped in chronic poverty, because the pace of our economic development has left them behind.

Personally, I do not think that the Budget 2013 has done enough for the Elderly...

Spore Inc mission statement is "you die is your own business"

Budget meeting results from PAP are just another talk cock sing song

This happened when Looney say additional 2% GST total = 7%
the 2% will help the poor, I think the PAP are helping themselves to the 2%
Never see it coming !! PROMISED BUT NEVER NEVER DELIVER!

Talk cock, Sing song and not action! you think peasantporean have short memory is it??

Budgets don't care of the elderly. Budgets are nothing more than spread sheets.

Families are supposed to care of their elderly.

Talk so much for fuck? Have you finished tweaking the rules here? 1 simple forum you manage until so messy! :oIo:

there are in place so many schemes for the elderly.
no elderly dies because he cannot afford medical care.
singapore is one of the lucky countries in the world where medical care is affordable
and the standard of medical care is world class....the elderly are given special preferance in many schemes availabe to them

don't believe me? you will only know if you fall sick and when you are rushed to the ER....
then you will realise how lucky you are in singapore...:)

I agree with you 100%. While the opposition loonies continue to peddle their lies and distortions about the govt, the facts speak for themselves. Singaporeans live longer than residents of most other countries.

If the elderly in Singapore were simply left to die, there is no way in the world that Singapore would rank in the top 10 on a list of 198 countries.

In this list, Singapore is ranked even better at number 4.

In practical terms, this means that if you live in Singapore, you have a far better chance of celebrating the 80th birthdays of your parents compared to most other countries.

For that, you should all be eternally grateful to the PAP and the medical infrastructure that they have created over the years.

Awesome!:oIo::oIo::oIo:

You can find 10, you can find 4 but you can never find something as consistent as their pay ranking in the world.

They are paid well but they deliver the goods as can be seen by the statistics that define the country on the world stage. Singapore punches way above its weight in many areas and for this we have to thank our esteemed ministers.

New Zealand and OZ politicians may earn less but as a taxpayer, you are supporting such a huge bureaucracy made up of Federal govt, state govt, local council, health boards etc etc that you end up paying far more while getting much less in return.

I don't agree with the term "paid well" you mentioned. By looking at the figures, i consider it as disgustingly overpaid.

Looking at the rankings I see that Macau & Monaco is ranked higher than Spore
Obviously longevity has nothing to do with the type government. More likely it has to do with other factors such as good genes, how the data was collected, etc

Monaco is nothing but multi millionaires and Macau is similar. Rich people can afford the health care required to reach old age.

Singaporeans are generally wealthy too thanks to the PAP govt but because the govt extends excellent health care to everyone regardless of their wealth, the average is boosted significantly.

If the govt simply left the poor to die, life expectancy in Singapore would be a lot lower.
