PAP: It was Michael Palmer's fault for not fixing Rivervale Shopping Centre

Those countries are big. The MPs have homes there so that they do not have to travel long distance to reach their own state meetings. It makes sense to do so. The MPs will stay in their own homes most of the time. The home provided by the taxpayers is only used occasionally and for the reasons mentioned.

No it still makes sense to live in the constituency you represent. If you dont live there, you are detached from your voters, no matter how great your MPS are

lianbeng says: ofcoz his fault lah! :D he dowan Jiang mountain want beauty 不要江山要美人 mah!

some people are worried about feeding the world population.

punggol residents are only concerned about shopping? Huh?

MP might be made to bear the brunt of PAP's internal strife

It simply looks bad that Palmer failed to fix the problems in his constituency while also having an affair with Laura Ong.

The implication (though flawed) is that he was too busy screwing Laura to do his job.

However, in reality, there is almost nothing an MP can do to speed up renovations of a shopping mall in his constituency. That is down to the contractors, and the contract is not awarded by the MP. It is awarded by the developer or the construction company.

The only thing the MP can do is to make it a public issue and put pressure on the contractors. That would make him appear to be on the side of the people.

Do you really think an MP can improve traffic congestion, lower bus fares or increase the number of school places in his ward?

His job is to be the voice of his constituents and to raise issues publicly by speaking up in Parliament (or outside Parliament). He is not a feudal lord who is in-charge of an independent nation state.

To illustrate my point further, Low Thia Khiang is the MP for the Bedok Reservoir area.

Do you think he can actually do anything to lower the number of suicides there?

He's probably not trained well as an MP and was too focused on basking in the light of a Speaker
