Dear Mr Low,

You requested for more opportunities to be given to opposition MPs . A reasonable request but I do not think that the opposition MPs have been disadvantaged in any way in the past to speak. There have been opportunities in the past and with the increase in the number of opposition MPs in parliament, I should think that there will now be more opportunities to speak.

The real question that you should perhaps ask yourself is whether with the time presented, how much of difference or change can you make. It is not so much as to whether you have more time to speak but how well you use the time to effect the change.

Mr Chen was quick to highlight and claim credit for the recent slew of policy revisions and improvements which the PAP government has introduced after the recent General Elections. He indirectly attributes this to “the credible alternative” that has found its way into the parliament.

I disagree.

There are uncontrollable issues and uncertainties out there – the Bukom fire, growing number of elderly people suffering from Dementia, flooding in Thailand and Bangkok, threatening worldwide recession, the list goes on. In a situation like this, it is better to be nimble and decisive and not be bogged down by the process of politicking. Yes, the government need to lead by example on the basis of servant leadership to serve its people but there will be times where hard decisions will need to be made. There is no room for populist politics in Singapore.

Although they have reported a decreasing trend in the number of drug abuse cases during this period, let's not forget the excellent work that the organisation has done in battling the social problem of substance abuse in Singapore.

Which leaves me to commend the Central Narcotics Bureau on their efforts.

Bukon fire -- Civil defense -- MHA
Elderly suffering from dementia -- MOH
Flood in Thailand -- huh? If the government does not even care about the welfare of its own people, then should it be meddling into the welfare of other countries?
threatening world recession -- FYI, every time this happens the present government always say they can't do anything.

Obviously this guy has no understanding of how the system should be and the purpose of parliament. the parliament is to establish policies which are meant for mid and long terms. The things he stated do not even need much debate in Parliament.

This chap has been so brainwashed by Pappy propaganda that he's just regurgitating drivel and bad clichés he read from the state press.
