Mr Mohammad Malek, a Physics teacher in a secondary school, confessed that he would not admit if he has trouble answering questions his students pose.

But he has a trick to counter that issue when it arises.

“Sometimes, when a student asks me a question which I do not know the answer to, I will not reveal that I have problems answering it. Instead, I will ask another student whom I think will know the answer,” says Mr Malek.

If the student he picks fails to answer, he then proceeds to the next step which is to ask the class to find out the answer themselves- all in the name of independent learning.

While the students scamble for answers, Mr Malek will do his own research and present the answer in his next class with them.

Mr Malek admits that students have noticed and commented on his witty 'strategy', while his colleagues agree that it is a brilliant attempt to dodge an embarrassing moment in class.

“As long as the current students which I am teaching are not aware of this trick I use rarely, I believe it has a positive effect on their learning.”

This is the standard of our education system...

instead of finding the answer for the students or working together with them, he pushed his job to them.

If they can learn independantly effectively, then why employ you, Malek?

Malek you might as well Balek.

Instead, I will ask another student whom I think will know the answer,” says Mr Malek.

If the student he picks fails to answer...

Ah!, if the student does answer. How does he knows if the answer is correct? Affirming a wrong answer to other students is a no no.

Doesn't matter if the answer is right or wrong! The main point being the teacher has no idea what is the right answer! Like PAP, they would have to assume that they know the answer & they would have to assume they know best & they would have to assume what is best for you, & most importantly they would have to prioritise what is most convenient to them!

Even with research on the questions later, this Malek will still have no idea because his beliefs predominate the facts & he would rather have you looking for the answer yourself & with more than three students giving the same answer then that shall be deemed as the right answer as it convenience him so! Doesn't it sound so much like PAP policy! Hasn't it always been the case in the parliament, one proposed, one concur & one second the motion & a law is passed! So it takes only three views to make a fact ignoring the rest of the class of let's say 30 & the law is passed ignoring let's say the rest of the 3 millions!

Sounds like one of those 'public feedback consultation' exercises from the PAP government. Also, the student is not paid the teacher's salary, and yet is expected to help with teaching the class. Uncanny parallels.

we don''t expect teacher to know everything. it is ok if some questions are difficult to answer.
don't know just say don't know lah.
nothing to be ashamed of as long as the teacher never say : i am the best. i deserve this and that. without me teaching , you will not pass your examination.
