Optional re-registration of NRICs for those born before 1962

SINGAPORE: From next year, Singapore citizens and permanent residents born before 1962 will have the option of re-registering their National Registration Identity Card (NRIC), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said in a press statement on Thursday (Nov 23).

Currently, Singapore citizens and permanent residents must register for their NRICs at age 15. They must then re-register when they turn 30 and 55. Through these exercises, applicants are issued with new NRICs bearing their most recent photographs, thereby improving identification as they grow older.

Citizens and permanent residents born before 1962 were not covered in the mandatory re-registration of NRIC at age 55, which came into effect on January this year. That exercise affected those born on or after Jan 1, 1962.

This new optional exercise will allow those born before 1962 and who have not replaced their NRICs in the last 10 years to do so.

Eligible parties will receive a notification letter, the authority said.

Yup not free. Old picture or not, my NRIC has worked ok for me. I suppose they will start making it difficult for people with old ICs like mine. eg. machines cannot scan, etc. some stupid excuse and force us to convert to new IC and pay money. fucking PAP.

Why do we need an NRIC for?

PAP can track u mah. In everything you do, etc. U have been reduced to a number. If you want to find out anything on your CPF, as just one example, they ask for your IC number. It does not matter if you give them your name. Their system is not geared to look up your name. The system can only accept an IC number. They have taken the humanity out of it, and reduced u to a number.

my uncle say NRIC is very important to carry with you if you go out at night. He say police can suka suka suspect you of anything and check your IC. He say if you never carry they can arrest you to station first then ask family member to bring there, after which they will give you a advice not to commit this again.
