If it is indeed the case that the RC and CCs have refused to allow the use of their facilities for Opposition MPS, those grassroots leaders who make such decisions ought to rethink their actions. It is not in their interest or the PAP's interest for that matter to be seen as depriving public resources to public servants, regardless of the latter's political affiliation. Such an act will come across as the electorate as being petty, especially in this day and age, where every single act comes under the microscope and is disseminated through new media sources. If you want to win back ur residents, brute fear and intimidation will get you no where because residents these days can rely on new found critical masses such as the online community for vent their frustrations and find social support. Thus, ur ancien ways will just backfire eventually, resulting in a greater dislodge between these organizations and the common folk.

Use void deck get some public sympathy and news coverage.

Then later can conduct fund raising or get people to support by providing office space and refreshments. They have a lot of goodwill now.

An office and basic facilties don't cost much, this is no problem at all.

Can't wait for first Parliament session, Only problem is we don't get to see it live. All edited by Channel News Asia, so can't see them debate in style.

Is this a case of opposition wanting to start before handing and taking over of facilities?

The Singapore Gov should provide, as a service to citizens of Singapore, decent facilities, a staff budget, operating budget to be used to conduct the affairs of the MP. The $ allocated should reflect the size of the contituency. I think all Singaporeans would agree to this. The amount of money need not be a lot.

For example, in case of SMC where only 1 MP, maybe office space of 2K sf with proper airconditioning and basic office equipment (phones, photocopier, seating, aircon, furniture) and phone lines, permanent paid staff of 2 person to answer calls from constituents and a monthly operating budget of $10K (to cover stationery, utilities, misc).

This will allow a more comfortable and better interaction at these meet the people sessions. In some cases, glassed off areas should be provided to allow citizens some privacy as they ask for assistance.

Chao Snkie Peasant Mentality

Always asking for things and wanting PAP to feed the opposition

This is a great opportunity for WP to build up its support base and finnacial resources to build their own facilities

If they rely on PAP and govt to give, then I seriously look down on them.

Disgusting Sinkie beggar mentality

its d ruling pap ways of 'punishing d resident' who voted d opposition, just like their threat of not upgrading hdb in opp's wards.
as a mp-elect, d govtment (hdb) SHOULD ALLOW 2 have a decent office 2 conduct their activities in services 2 d residents.

if lhl meant wat he say by "TAKING CARE OF ALL SINKAPOLIANS" , tis basic accomadation should b automatically allow without any problem or strings 2 tie d opposition's services down

let's c if lhl will do wat he say

People's power in the Middle East yes. In Singapore, people's power is through listening to their iPods.

Ever since the opposition were voted in, CST and LTK have been conducting meet the ppl at the void deck. That's why LTK has vowed WP will dismantle the PA if they are voted in again.

How can this even be tolerated? All are citizens even the oppostion MP! PAP perpetuates and encourages this dichotomy between their MPs and the opposition MPs clearly to "punish" the voters for voting against the PAP. PA is PAP!

All NTUC and SAF staff must resigned 1 year in advance to join political parties.

In some cases, glassed off areas should be provided to allow citizens some privacy as they ask for assistance.

lianbeng wonders, "how can they start meeting residents when not yet officially announced and without proper handing/taking over SOP?" why not they do it in the comfort of their own homes so nobody can see mah?
