Only a coin for a courageous act

The Coin is given to soldiers who have performed well and have gone beyond the call of duty.

Presenting the award is a public recognition from our government of the heroism, contribution and meritorious
service above and beyond that is normally expected of our NS men.

Acts of valor, heroism, exceptional service, and outstanding achievement deserve The Coin!

The Coin is chosen by our Armed Forces to signify Value (of sacrifice) and exemplify the Cheapness (of life) for
the recipient!

Awarding the Coin to a deceased or wounded member of our Armed Forces is intended to symbolize "NSF's Life
Is Like Loose Changes - Cheap"
and instantiate a discipline in our men to make more of such selfless and
personal sacrifice.

I believe this is a first gesture of recognition, which the COA can give out without consulting anyone. Other greater honours require the approval of the honours committee(s) in the SAF. That would probably take more time.

Absolutely right …

Yes, something quick, something that can be done without red tape ….

Yes, a gesture of recognition for the heroic act of saving a life ...

Yes, a token of appreciation for not getting killed ...

Yes, something inexpensive, something readily available …

Yes, something we all got a lot, something we often give away to the tussle auntie …

Yes, The Coin !

Yes, Nothing Beats Loose Change ... cheap, convenient, no red tape and symbolically GOOD!

Life is Cheap ...

As I'd said earlier, this was probably a first gesture (which did not need many layers of approval) which would be followed up by others which does (including a medal, probably.)

If I recall correctly, medals can only be awarded by the SAF Council on the recommendation of his unit.

To me, a "coin" sounds cheap. Why can't they just name it a medal?

Maybe the SAF can enhance grenade throwing safety by issuing stick grenades used by Nazi Germany.

You don't have to mess around with a safety pin, and you can throw it with a greater range and accuracy.

If you can get past the Jewish-induced knee-jerk disdain to all things Nazi, you'll find that a stick grenade has a very ergonomic design. It also fits into the more streamlined modern SBOs. The Germans have always been brilliant at engineering.
