He ended up dragging the motorcycle and its rider, a 64-year-old construction supervisor, before he hit a van and came to a stop after scrapping the left wall along the expressway.

The motorcyclist, Kwah Tee Peng, sustained multiple serious injuries and was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

On Friday, Yu pleaded guilty to negligent driving and causing the death of Kwah on 23 September 2009. He was sentenced to six weeks' jail and disqualified from driving all vehicles for five years.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ramu Miyapan was reported as saying that Yu had "mowed into the motorcycle and dragged rider and machine for a distance". Miyapan added that the expressway was a straight road, there were no blind corners and Yu deserved a jail term for his negligence.
