A fire broke out earlier this evening at Block 5 Holland Close. Thanks to Singapore Civil Defence Force’s swift and professional response, the situation was brought under control and all residents were safely evacuated.
Our thoughts are with the two residents who were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and the two brave firefighters receiving treatment for heat exhaustion. We wish them all a full and speedy recovery.
We’re working closely with agencies, grassroots leaders and volunteers to support those affected. If you or someone you know needs help or temporary lodging, please reach out via PM at My Buona Vista.
Thank you to our emergency responders for your courage and quick action. Stay safe, everyone.

Singapore and France reaffirmed our strong and broad-based bilateral defence relationship this week. A delegation led by Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo 朱倍庆 was in France for the 55th Paris Air Show and met with French defence and industry leaders.
The visit also included a commemoration of 60 years of Singapore-France diplomatic relations at the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s Advanced Jet Training Detachment, 150 Squadron, at Cazaux Air Base.
Our overseas training detachments are vital for the SAF. For our The Republic of Singapore Air Force personnel stationed in France, Cazaux has been their home away from home since the detachment stood up in 1998. Such overseas training allows the RSAF to overcome Singapore’s land and airspace constraints, providing the space to ensure our people are well-trained and remain operationally ready.
Thank you to our French partners for their unwavering support for our Cazaux detachment. These interactions strengthen the friendship and understanding between our countries and armed forces.

Yesterday evening, I visited the families affected by the recent fire at Blk 5 Holland Close. While some homes suffered significant smoke and fire damage, I’m thankful all residents are safe.
It was difficult for the affected families to go through this, but I was heartened to see how quickly our community rallied together. Neighbours looked out for one another, and our teams from PA, SCDF, HDB and Town Council worked swiftly to provide support and reassurance.
We are working closely with the relevant agencies to assist with their recovery, from temporary accommodation to cleaning and repair needs.
Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to help. In Buona Vista, we walk together, especially in tough times. That’s what makes our community strong.

Keechiu was delighted to meet Peter. :o-o::confused::tongue:

Delighted to meet Peter Kyle, UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State for Defence (Minister for the House of Lords), and Nik Mehta, British High Commissioner to Singapore, aboard HMS Prince of Wales during their visit to Singapore.
Singapore is honoured to host the sailors aboard the Carrier Strike Group, including the HMS Prince of Wales. This is the first time the Marina Bay Cruise Centre has hosted a warship, which speaks to the ingenuity and like-mindedness between both countries in breaking new ground together. It is a wonderful way to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations.
The close historical links between Singapore and the United Kingdom go beyond 60 years and span close to two centuries. Today, we are more than partners in defence where Singapore and the UK are also members of the Five Power Defence Arrangements, we are old friends, with a long-standing relationship between our countries built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to peace and security.
People-to-people ties at all levels also remain strong. I, for one, fondly recall the friendships and memories made during my time studying in the United Kingdom.
I look forward to our continued friendship and cooperation, as we work together to ensure safe and resilient homes for our people. Wishing HMS Prince of Wales fair winds and smooth sailing on her journey ahead.

Ever wonder how we, as a small island nation, keep our waters safe and sea lines of communications open? A big part of it lies in the hard work of our sailors, and our strong cooperation with key international partners.
The Republic of Singapore Navy and United States Navy recently wrapped up the fifth edition of Exercise Pacific Griffin, having trained hard in the waters off Guam.
This bilateral exercise, along with other regular interactions, enhances cooperation and mutual understanding between Singapore and the US, a partnership that goes back nearly six decades. Both navies embarked on a series of missions from live missile firings to maritime counter-terrorism operations training, with participating The Republic of Singapore Air Force assets.
Thank you to all our men and women in uniform, and to our US counterparts for making this exercise a success!

Last week, during a house visit, I had the pleasant surprise of running into Andrew, who reminded me that I had promoted him 15 years ago when I was the Chief of Army.
Just a few days later, on Friday, I presented promotion certificates to our service personnel at this year’s MINDEF/SAF Promotion Ceremony, now as Minister for Defence.
As MINDEF/SAF's capabilities evolve and grow to meet tomorrow's needs, the most important investment we must make is in our people. It is the professionalism, dedication, and hard work of our MINDEF and SAF personnel that keep Singapore safe and secure.
I would also like to express my appreciation to the families of our service personnel. The support and encouragement you provide behind the scenes are essential to their ability to serve. I am sure you are proud of the meaningful work they do.
Congratulations once again to this year’s promotees. You have done well, and I look forward to seeing your continued contributions to MINDEF and the SAF.

Every day, our service personnel give their best — not for praise or recognition, but so that Singapore remains safe and secure for the people we love.
It may not always be obvious, but to me, the success of the SAF looks like this: being able to return home safely after a day’s work, to sit down for dinner with our families, to live in a home where our children can grow up without fear. Every day of peace is a day of success.
Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Best Unit Competition. Thank you for carrying this responsibility with strength, professionalism, and dedication.

It is always special to see so many MINDEF/SAF personnel gathered together for the annual Presidential Garden Reception, hosted by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
This reception, a tradition since 1992, honours the dedication and invaluable contributions of our personnel as well as those from the Defence Technology Community in defending our nation. We also recognise those who contribute to our Total Defence.
It was inspiring to connect with them and hear not just about what they do, but also their personal hopes and aspirations.
To all who stand guard over our peace and security: Thank you for your unwavering professionalism, courage and commitment. You are the strength behind a safer Singapore.

I used to work closely with the staff at DSTA Defence Science and Technology Agency and saw firsthand how our defence engineers quietly power the capabilities that keep Singapore safe.
During my recent visit, it was heartening to reconnect with some familiar faces and to meet many new, young talents who have since joined the organisation.
DSTA has always held a special place in my heart, just like DSO. In today’s fast-paced and complex operating environment, the mission of DSTA is critical. Many of the capabilities they develop must be deployed even before the SAF’s conventional forces are activated.
This is only possible because of the hard work, dedication, and ingenuity of the people at DSTA. We may be a small nation, but the work they do gives us the quiet confidence to meet evolving threats — showing that our size does not define our strength.
Thank you to all the staff at DSTA for your tireless efforts behind the scenes. I look forward to seeing more bright young minds join them to play a part in defending Singapore.

Visited Special Operations Task Force (SOTF), where I got updated on their capabilities. Also tried out some of their systems.
To apply force as a Commander, we must know what our people can do and what they cannot do.
From 2009, when I was still in the SAF, we formed SOTF to unite the SAF’s Commandos, Naval Diving Unit and Special Operations Aviators to tackle unconventional and demanding security threats. It has been a most meaningful journey to see the fruits of our labour to build our defence capabilities to answer tomorrow’s challenges ahead of time.
The rigorous training and professionalism of our elite soldiers were evident throughout. Their unwavering dedication and operational readiness reflect the SAF’s steadfast commitment to keeping Singapore safe.

A big thank you to all the Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF) Volunteers who have stepped forward to contribute time, skills, and perspectives in support of our nation’s defence. While they may not wear a uniform, they are certainly a vital part of our defence ecosystem.
National defence is a whole-of-nation effort – one that not only draws strength from the SAF, but also from the collective commitment of our wider society. Today, our MINDEF volunteers contribute across more domains than ever before, from cybersecurity and sustainability to public communications and heritage storytelling.
More people from all walks of life are stepping up in meaningful ways. MINDEF is expanding volunteering opportunities and will also be setting up a new volunteer management unit to grow and coordinate defence-related volunteering opportunities, with more details to be shared in due time.
We invite more to join us as a volunteer because defending Singapore is something we must do together.

I met GEN Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohammad when I visited Malaysia as the Chief of Army in 2010. GEN Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohammad had been my officer-in-attendance then, and he reminded me of this when we met this morning, on the occasion of his receiving the Distinguished Service Order (Military) from President Tharman Shanmugaratnam today.
GEN Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohammad is the 22nd Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces and under his leadership, the SAF and MAF strengthened our longstanding partnership, working closely together through regular bilateral exercises and multilateral platforms — cooperation that continues to contribute to regional security and stability.
I conveyed my appreciation for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral defence ties, people-to-people friendships and enhancing cooperation between the SAF and the MAF. We reaffirmed the importance of deepening the bilateral defence relationship between our two countries.

SINGAPORE: Singapore could be the “most perfect example” of a country that needs nuclear energy given its territorial limitations, energy requirements, technological base and institutional maturity, said the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi on Friday (Jul 25).

The chief of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog was in Singapore as part of the SR Nathan Fellowship, a high-level programme for foreign leaders and prominent individuals to visit the country.

The country on Friday also renewed its agreement with the IAEA to help train experts from developing countries in nuclear research.

Speaking during a lecture and question-and-answer session hosted by the newly launched Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute at the National University of Singapore, Mr Grossi said that Singapore is prepared to host nuclear power “relatively soon”.
