SINGAPORE — The decision to impose parking fees on teachers at all schools stems from the Government's duty to abide by a "system of internal self-discipline", said Education Minister Ong Ye Kung on Friday (May 25).

"Charging for parking, therefore, is primarily a decision borne out of duty. But this duty does not diminish our appreciation of teachers and educators," Mr Ong wrote on Facebook.

When they give a long-winded explanation, extolling higher virtues of their decision, you know that they don't really have the intellectual capabillity to address simple problems in a simple manner. Mixing the issue of parking fees to be charged with this crap about system of internal self-discipline is a clear reflection that they don't really understand the issue.

The simple explanation is this: to be fair to other civil servants who have to pay for their parking at their working places, the govt has decided that it's only fair that teachers should also pay for the parking. And that the money collected will be channelled back to the school. Period.

The cheek of it all - to talk about the "system of internal self-discipline" - when they exercise that discipline by not having their salaries raised against private sector benchmarks, I will believe him. Or for that matter, to have the discipline to not make a big issue when announcing to the world that they are not giving themselves a raise.

Next, will be the"exclusive" use of the school toilets, " to maintain good standards & cleanliness plus good ambience" charges will be levied to the exclusive use of teacher's toilets. The use of the teachers table will be charged, plus the wifi, the facsimile, the photo copy machines will be coin operated, beverages & snack machines...it takes an "internal self discipline" to keep the cost down.

So, teachers must have an internal self discipline by not spending out of pocket expenses or teaching outside the curriculum... ha ha ha
