frankly too much lift mishaps.......... traceable to employment of far too many f trashes - cheap and good???
tnp 17 may 2016
The irony of having MPs managing town councils has truly backfired. In this case, the PAP MP Zainab Sapari, visited the victim in hospital, gave his contact details to the victims son, also sent 2 staff from town council to the hospital to assist the family etc. The MP is also explaining the lift maintenance programme and what has been done. What the hell is the general manger of the town council doing.
I do feel for the victim and his family but should we pay $16k t someone we elect to do stuff like this. Should they not be focusing on better policies and the overall improvement of citizens at both the local and national level.
Someone dies in an industrial accident, a road accident, drowning in a swimming pool etc, you don't see MPs and why should you.
We go down this path, nobody capable will want to stand for elections. And we end up with mediocre candidates.
Yeah! I find it incredible that there r 2 other people in the lift and this still happens!! Everybody glued to their hp?
That's what happens when mix up MP and estate manager jobs.
I am sure something can be done to prevent or if not, alert people of any abnormalities in the lift door opening or closing.
The HDB can install sensor to detect any misalignment of the lift door with the landing floor.
You can't blame the handicapped chap for reversing his wheelchair to get out of the lift. Even if he is facing the lift door, he could also have fallen face-down when the door opens.

It can be prevented, MAINTENANCE...life that is....no need sensors etc...which they will tell you, TC fees will go up to install them.....the death of the elderly person....please file under " HONEST MISTAKE"..
Only an idiot would reverse without looking. He must have had brain damage even before the incident.

. Expect more mishaps. Singapore is ageing and the elderly are vulnerable. One of the policies we expect our MPs to be examining is how to accommodate this group. Yes, we are already ending up with mediocre candidates. You are right, only so many hours in the day. Responsibility should rest on the right people.
