THE labour movement will take a consensus-building approach to the upcoming presidential election when deciding whether to endorse a candidate or who to endorse, said labour chief Lim Swee Say on Thursday.
There are several possible scenarios, Mr Lim added. The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) may decide to back a candidate if there is enough consensus among its 60 affiliated unions. Or various unions may end up backing different candidates. Mr Lim was speaking to reporters after the labour movement's first National Day observance ceremony.
He also said the NTUC has decided on building consensus instead of its top-down approach in the past because the current five presidential hopefuls are not from the labour movement.
The NTUC had backed its former secretary-general Ong Teng Cheong in 1993 and former Labour Research Unit director SR Nathan in 1999 for the presidency, in light of their ties with the labour movement.
To help unionists know and understand candidates better, the NTUC will hold more consultation and may even invite other presidential hopefuls if there are requests for a dialogue with them, said Mr Lim. Earlier this week, former Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan, a contender for the Elected Presidency, held a dialogue with union leaders.
The labour chief added that the NTUC is taking a strong interest in the Presidential Election as it believes the next Elected President must be able to raise Singapore's standing internationally and unite Singaporeans in an increasingly competitive global landscape.

Lim Shit Say is talking cock. This is the fella who convinced LHL that he could deliver the NTUC votes and conned the PM into being put into East Coast GRC instead of Aljuinied. So GY got hung dry instead and this Shit Face gets to keep his job in the PM's office. For only $2million a year.

He is in a no-win situation. Endorse, sure die. Don't endorse, not seen to be por enough. Truth be told, his BS in the Straits Times that the NTUC "will not come down hard" on members who vote non-endorsed candidates. So, is NTUC an organisation where members cannot vote freely?

Fcuking Zorro Lim. Farking for the Cause for the rich & powerful to get richer and more powerful. Bastard child.

NTUC behaves like a mafia organisation. Why should its members listen to who should they vote for?

Going by his logic of past NTUC support for candidates then shouldn't NTUC endorse TKL this time round?

Lim Shit Say is PAP people. Tony Tan is PAP backed candidate. What shit was he uttering who to endorse when the decision is already casted in stone. The Zorro is famous for his wayang and wanted a small part in newspaper news to insult Singaporean intelligent. In no time, the whole pages of Shit Times will carry Shit Say message that NTUC will "endorse" tony Tan. Trust me!!! it is as predictable as SHIT IS BLACK IN COLOR.

WAYANG has no place in Singapore. Answer is already out!

NTUC is still playing coy! What an insult to the intelligence! Like I have said before many times, NTUC=PAP=Symbiotic Relationship= Support for TT. :D:rolleyes: It's all part of the game! TKL although hailing from NTUC has more or less alienated himself from the PAP government by his freindly overtures to the opposition whereas TT is a diehard lifetime PAP miw. No brainer. Build what consensus arh? Very cheem.:D

Zorro Lim ===>>> NTUC ===>>> Tony Tan

They should bring back the old Zorro series. For those uncles old enough to remember the "original" instead of the cheap imitation of Zorro Lim, here is a memory from the past :)

The words "labour movement" and "labour chief" make me want to puke!

NTUC is just interested in supermarkets, insurance, auto servicing and repairs business.

Similar to Gerald Ee, sitting in PTC and endorsed everything PAP did. The fare hide already casted in stone and he simply wayang along to act independent until now. What is PTC for? might as well scrap it instead of wasting public money to have such wayang council in Singapore. That is why LHL wanted him to review minister salary because LHL knows Gerald Ee is another PAP useless dog easily tamed and worked according to PAP bidding.

Lim Shit Say will take the cake again. Watch this column closely and within weeks, Shit Say will scream to the delight of PAP that he and his "NTUC" will endorse PAP backed candidate. Is this even news? but Shit Times will have pages after pages allocated for him. You guys have the rights to start cursing ]Shit Say now, future is just so predictable under PAP shit!
