NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and NMP Cham Hui Fong


NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong, who is also a Nominated Member of Parliament, has issued a statement today (28 Nov) with regards to the illegal strike by SMRT’s drivers.

It said that foreign workers can become union members also. As of today, NTUC said that 140,000 of them have already done so.

It added that in the public transport sector, majority of PRC bus drivers working at SBS Transit are union members. However, majority of foreign bus drivers in SMRT have not joined the union.

Ms Cham said, “There are valuable lessons to be learnt from this incident at SMRT. Management should recognise the positive role the union can play. Union will continue to step up efforts to bring more foreign workers into their membership base. On their part, foreign drivers should see the benefit of joining the union so that the union can be of assistance to them.”

Unions are meant to exclude cheap aliens. Otherwise original workers such as the Malaysians and the sinkies all replaced by PRC because they get more purchasing power for the same pay. This bitch should be hanged.

I would love to see the day when SBS drivers also strike, I mean not turn up at work. That will be conclusive if the Useless Union indeed makes any difference.

FT and also many company not allow them to join Union.
SG Union under gov is useless. Union should be NGO. So they can operate without fear.
