Did they accumulated enough wealth that will provide for them until they are old? What about professional sportsmen in Singapore? Don't they deserve it? Talents are not just brains alone. Your point is correct, but that's where they could have revamped the process completely.
For those ex players who are interested, send them for overseas training to be managers, coaches, trainers, even physios or referees.
For those with more intellect, let them go and study sports psychology or management.
There are so many opportunities in sports, so many different types of sports and events these days, that there are plenty of opportunities for those who are willing and able.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's almost like a mini-economy in itself.
But what did they do? Recruit foreign coaches, managers, put politicians in high posts, and bring in as many foreign sportspersons as they could.
All for a quick fix and to bring quick glory to the leaders when they meet their counterparts from other countries and to further the lower level politicians' ambitions.

i watched the AFF cup closely last month. no doubt, the tournament was a success, it generate lots of interest in Vietnam, indonesia and later Msia.... but sadly, I do not think the overall standard in SEA Soccer has gone up. Looking at the standard of play, all the teams are still very poor.

Msia won because of their team work. They deserved it. They have won the SEA games and now the AFF cup. Good job.

Indonesia and Singapore... generally failed. Indonesia brought in few FTs, but I think the team still very navie tactically. Otherwise, they should have won champion.

Thailand was a disappointment. Not sure what is the reason... but the whole team and mgmt are to be blame. Vietnam is also not good enough, the standard is same as 4-5 years ago. Has not improved. Not sure if it is due to kelong.

Philippines deserved credit. They are on the right track, but unfortunately, they do not have the govt backing yet. They do not even have the infrastructure or a proper stadium to hold the semi final at home.

Overall, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam need a major shake up.

Maybe AFF should learn from Asean Basketball League. I watch few "live" games on ESPN, thought the atmosphere and standard is not bad. The matches are also very competitive.

i agree. Why cant we accept that we are no good in soccer? Dont give excuses like population size. Several countries who have less people than singapore have qualified for the world cup.

Yes, soccer is our most loved sport, but soccer is also the number 1 sport in many countries. we dont have any god given right to excel in soccer just because we are passionate about it.

Ever since N Ganesan left, I don't recall anyone who ran the FAS as efficiently as Ganesan. Politicians know nuts about soccer. If they can't even run a sports association, how to run a country? To revive soccer, you need committed people like Ganesan and the late Uncle Choo type.

MBT and HPK failed miserably. Noordin already failed and yet refuses to surrender his seat. Hopefully he won't emulate Loh Lin COCK by staying put for decades.

Football in S'pore has been affected by the "paper chase" syndrome like the rest of the country. People like Uncle Choo could never have been the coach today because of lack of paper qualifications, degrees, etc. Sports is now politicised in S'pore, that is why u have an idiot like Noordin in charge of it. If these people are not politically connected, they will not be in.
