Can a Sporean use their medicare for a visit to the doctors for preventive health care:confused:

Health problems don't pop out of nowhere. If individuals have access to "affordable" health care they can go for regular check-ups. Then they can "play an active part to be accountable and responsible for their own health"

there are many free medical screening for seniors by various groups in singapore

some of these blood screening only cause $5 or less

i think many singaporeans are taking their own health quite seriously

they go for regular check ups and they also take their regular medications - esp the elderly

the worrisome group are the " young and restless " - group. many of them are time bombs. they are reluctant to start on any form of medications and they continue to live an adverse life-style that will eventually lead to their sudden premature deaths

you forgot about the young and obese group. those people everyday go out eat, post on sbf but refused to lose weight.

and WP wants retirees to come out and work. Solution to aging population?

Here you go again, the same old shit again. This is the first time I am reading about such an occurrence with our public bus drivers. Heart attacks can happen to young and old folks. Nothing to do with WP wanting to keep older citizens employed. You must be a very low ranking PAP IB staff, lacking intelligence or any prospects for promotion.

We don't need a hodgepodge of token benefits. What we need is real & affordable healthcare & in Spore this does not exist.

i personally believe many singaporeans are given affordable healthcare - basic primary healthcare
if you are familiar with CHASE, you should appreciate what our government is doing to help these people:)

i also believe that no singaporean dies because he can't afford medical care...

bus driving is a very stressful job

have high blood, high cholesterol, high sugar
they are potential heart attack patients
dangerous to let them drive
many have very poor life styles
poor exercise and in poor health

that means govt will need to consider phasing out buses on the roads? taxi drivers got stuck in their seats for long hours is probably even worse.

both are stressful jobs
they should have breaks in between after clocking certain mileages or after a certain period
bus drivers are told to be productive and to be punctual
so if they are late, they are penalised or given demerit points
so they are working under very stressful conditions
how not to have accidents

kopi, any idea what is the break time each driver gets when they arrive at interchange?

Its surprising that even though the profit is so high, bus companies are underpaying and overworking their drivers. Something is wrong somewhere.

maybe sufficient time to pee and then start the journey again
i think there should be a system that ensures adequate rest and safety

I doubt there is any system to ensure a good rest. The recent spat with those PRC drivers actually tells you a lot about their working hours and conditions.

once again, if the economic imperative is so pressing, the safety of the drivers and the passengers will be greatly jeopardised:(

I have seen it twice with my own eyes. The driver just stop the bus at the bus stop, ran as fast as he could to the shop and pack his food, then run back to the bus again. First time was a almost empty bus. Second time was an empty one going back to depot.

I hope we will grow to be more concerned for our bus drivers and give them better working conditions. This also applies to all sectors of our working population. Some workers are doing a three people work or even four people work! It's madness! Greater productivity has in fact produced more mental breakdowns. Wards in IMH are FULL.
