Nikon D4S has Same Memory Card Slots as D4 (CF & XQD)

According to Japanese website DigitalCamera.jp, the upcoming Nikon D4S DSLR will have same memory card slots as Nikon D4, which is one CF card slot and one XQD card slot. The design of Nikon D4S has no change from D4.

Here is comparison of the memory card door.



The Nikon D4S now already listed on B&H Photo Video website, not available for pre-order yet, and specs is not available yet.

For sports and action photography cameras, the most important aspect of the camera is the ability to lock focus on the object you want and then track it like a limpet without losing the focus.

With my D3, when I took action shots like bike races, athletic meets, motor racing etc, my yield of sharp images was around 70%.

When I got my D4, the yield went up to about 90%,

If the D4s can increase this yield further, then to a sports photographer, it could be well worth the upgrade. The faster processor and the 24 megapixel sensor also means that more aggressive cropping can be achieved which further improves the odds of nailing a money shot.

This is the stand out feature of my D4. If the D4s is even better, it would be an almost perfect camera.

The D4s blazes away at 10.5 frames per second, with every frame in-focus and perfectly exposed as your subject moves around. The D4s' speed is much more than just its 10.5 frames-per-second specification; it's all the other things like its metering and auto white balance and face-recognition autofocus and focal-length tracking Auto-ISO systems that all work twice as hard and fast as other cameras to keep those ten-point-five frames per second all looking great. I worry about getting there and pointing the camera in the right direction, and as I preset my D4s, it takes care of the rest.

It's not just ten frames or more; the D4s can keep this up longer than you can, running for up to twenty continuous seconds, making 210 full-resolution images in a burst. The D4s cheerfully rips away at 10.5 FPS, and hiccups not once writing all this to your card, even if the bursts run a hundred shots. Run just a few seconds at 10.5 FPS, and you'll be recording dozens and dozens of frames at a time, while the D4s never misses a beat.​

While it hasn't been a secret for months -- it debuted under glass at CES 2014 and underwent field testing recently at the Olympics (view some sample images) -- Nikon has finally gone public with the specs for its new flagship dSLR, the D4S. According to the company, the D4S was a "minor update that turned into more": a new sensor and upgrade to its Expeed 4 processor for better image quality and speed, plus tweaks to the autofocus settings, video and workflow features, and controls.

Most of the updates I'd classify as subtle but nontrivial. Although the sensor remains the same resolution, Nikon's reworked it in many mysterious ways; combined with the new processing, the camera's now rated up to ISO 409600, one stop beyond its predecessor.

The D4S now has an auto ISO setting to allow for automatically preserving consistent exposures when shooting video or time lapse; you can now shoot up to 9,999 frames in the latter as well. There's also a new 12-bit uncompressed small raw file size. And the battery life jumps if you switch to the new, higher-capacity EL-EN18a battery, though it remains compatible with the D4's EL-EN18. The Ethernet connection gets a speed boost, too, jumping to 1000BaseT.

The only really visible change to the design is the more durable, textured surface of the subselector and multiselector joysticks. The front grip is slightly deeper and there's a better grip on back for vertical shooting.

Action photographers get a bump to 11fps burst shooting with full autofocus and autoexposure. To address some of the backfocus complaints of the D4, Nikon has added a new Group Area AF mode, a moveable 5-point clump of AF points that operates as a single focus area, and which the company claims improves focus when shooting subjects against a busy background. AF lock-on (tracking) is now more sensitive, to theoretically better lock focus when something passes between camera and subject. Plus there's a new mirror mechanism with reduced slap and mirror blackout time, and the viewfinder supports the ability to maintain the same relative AF point when switching between horizontal and vertical orientations.

For portrait photographers, you can use face-detection based metering in the optical viewfinder, and the standard Picture Control and white balance have been tweaked to deliver better skin tones.

Nikon's boosted the video operation, adding a 1080/60p codec and the ability to record simultaneously to an external recorder via HDMI and to an internal card. It also adds two audio frequency range recording options (which can be changed while recording), Wide Range and Voice Range.

Not the big advance I'm guessing some folks were hoping for, but pro cameras tend to follow an every-other-generation major upgrade cycle. And ISO 409600? Well, that will definitely make for some interesting pixel peeping.

Nikon D4S hits stores at S$8,799

SINGAPORE — Nikon’s flagship DSLR, the Nikon D4S, went on sale yesterday (March 11) at the price of S$8,799 (body only) at authorised Nikon dealers.

The D4S is touted to have advances over its predecessor, such as the new EXPEED 4 image-processing engine which processes images faster, and a new Nikon FX-format COMS image sensor, allows the D4S to shoot at the equivalent of ISO 409,600.



The autofocus system has also been improved, thanks to the Advanced Multi-CAM 3500FX autofocus sensor module. A Group-area AF mode also allows better autofocusing when you’re shooting in continuous focus.

For those who shoot movies, the D4S can also shoot in full HD (1920x1080) at 60 fps.

At the Nikon D4S launch event last month held at the Kartright Speedway in Jurong, the Nikon D4S proved extremely capable in keeping fast-moving go karts in focus even as they sped down the track with the camera attempting to track their movements. While the go karts did not quite hit F1 speeds, it was good to see that the autofocus responded well and quickly even when the carts were coming towards the camera. I could also keep tracking the go-karts for a long time: The buffer on the D4S seemed to go on forever.

We’ll be getting the Nikon D4S for a full review soon, but right now, it appears that the D4S has just enough to tempt those looking for an upgrade.

The latest model in the 5000 series, the 5500 continues the trend of higher quality features of this series. This camera has a monocoque design, which means that the body of this camera is a single unit, which increases its durability. This makes it a much sturdier camera. The grip of this camera is very strong, which is helpful in some situations. It features a touch functionality on its LCD, which makes it pretty easy to use. Its menu navigation thus becomes much more easy.

Its maximum video quality is 1080p at 60 frame per seconds. Its LCD is 3.3 Inches, and has 1.2 dots fully articulating. It features an eye sensor, as well as wifi. It has a optional GPS for a specific model. It can take up to 820 shots on a single battery charge. Its dimensions are 124 mm x 97 mm x 70 mm. Its weight is 420 grams. This is an excellent camera in more ways than one. If you want a sturdy camera that comes full of features of an DSLR, the Nikon D5500 is the one you should go for.
