New PC Tablet models emerge.....

No leh, for my situation, Android is better. I get my contacts, calendar, notes, document, apps and tasks all sync on Google's cloud. Images and videos on OVI shared services. All emails are pushed to my accounts. iPhone could also do that howbeit a bit more work to setup.

Never say Android no good lah, as I've said, I'm a simple guy, a phone is a phone, can call, can sms, play game, see a bit of video is enough for me, i didnt even set up my email on my iPhone :p:p:p

Me think OS is the where the fight will be.

Apple cannot win in the hardware since most of the components are pretty common. I have seen many of the fake Iphones from China and they are pretty good. Some even have 2 sim cards! But their OS is horrible. Apple has one of the nicest user interface.

In fact, if you have the volume you can probably tell factory what type of display (resolution), casing (magnesium/titanium), wifi, GPS, sim card, etc etc etc. Heck you could probably get an ex B&O designer to come out with a good looking tablet PC.

So looking forward is the big fight on tablet PC OS. HP bought Palm for their OS, Microsoft has that huge Corporate user base to plug into. Corps are conservative and they want something that will "plug" into their current network and have a familiar interface. And there is Android and Apple OS.

If MS makes their OS really cheap - the hundreds of hardware companies in China, including the tinkerers will be coming out with different variations of a tablet PC and matter of time before they get the right combination.

For example, what if they sold you a tablet PC with just as good a display as Ipad, same connectivity but able to plug in sim card and usb (of course will reduce battery life when doing so), just as good battery life for $200 vs $500 running of MS OS?

Again, the key issue is the OS. If MS sells their OS for very cheap, they would allow the whole hardware industry in China to come out with infinite variations of tablet PC. The components of Ipad are all made in China and the suppliers know the quality and capability of components used. It all boils down to the profit margin as a result of the specs used.

And the market is huge not just in the US.

It is huge in China. With low pricing, a farmer could pick up a tablet device and use his fingers to write the Chinese characters on the touch sensitive screen and write an email. The QWERT keyboard is useless to him since he does not know english. Overnight he is plugged in to the web and can email his son studying over in the US. If you price it at US$150, he would have no problems affording it. They could even sell a stripped down version to India where they may only know Hindi or Tamil and not English.

So imagine a Chinese company selling 50 million of such units (it would be the largest tablet PC in the world) then use that purchasing power and deliver a similar PC to the US via Walmart.

US user sees - MS Op system and they feel confident and schools might even pick it up.

Now lets see if MS will screw it up. The fight is in the OS!!

There is nothing wrong with copying a concept. The world is constantly evolving and it is stupid for one to reinvent the wheel. The leaders will protect their patents and keep coming out with new products, while the followers will understand the concept and try and built something that does not infringe on the patent.
