New Challenges

Another challenge facing Singapore will be in the field of education. I think our educational system need a complete overhaul. The recent statement by the co-founder of Apple, no doubt discussed before with Steve Jobs, that Singapore lacks creativity holds true.

Yes..that's true. Overhauling the education system means trade-offs in other areas, such as having more vocal and educated citizens. That may accelerate the demise of pap's dominance? is the pap willing to risk that?

the old man's demise will accelerate the demise of PAP's dominance :D:D:D

an overhaul of the education system will only serve to better the country on the whole :p:p:p

"Having more vocal and educated citizens?" That is not what I am referring to, as most Singaporeans are educated. Overhauling the system does not equate to having more citizens being educated if that is you mean. Singapore has one of the best education system in the world but it is far from ideal. I refer you to this site for you to understand what I am getting at.

Not sure if anyone has good answers to this... I don't. SG is multicultural (not to mention recent influx of foreigners). Finland very much more homogeneous. Traditions in education and work ethic stick better.

Actually SG does quite well on these tests but politics, entrepreneurship and creativity suck.

US/ UK also quite multicultural. Relatively poorer average test scores but they're creative in arts, sciences and technology. Interestingly, UK supposedly does better bang for buck in terms of R&D... Even entertainment-wise, UK 'experiments' become global success-stories eg Millionaire, Idol, The Office.
