Dear TRS,
I want to alert your readers to the fact that the bus operators in Singapore are systematically overcharing commuters.
I am not sure whether it is simply a flaw with their EZ link card system or whether they are deliberately overcharging commuters in the hope that they will just get away with it.
In the space of about 1 month through September, I was overcharged on my bus fare about 9 times.
I have been refunded 7 times and am still waiting on verification and refund for the last two times.
I was overcharged between $0.03 and $0.06.
I know some people may feel like “what’s the big deal”, but it is not OK for the bus operators to overcharge us arbitrarily hoping that we won’t apply for our money back.
Here are the text replies that I have received for the last 7 refunds I have been granted:
I think that many people may not be aware of this problem or may simply think it’s ok since it’s just a few cents but it adds up.

Clearly it is not a one-off problem as I have personally encountered it 9 times in just over a month.
With the hundreds of thousands of bus commuters daily, how much extra money are the bus operators collecting thanks to these errors?
Bus operators raise fares and people make a lot of noise about their trips costing a few cents more each time, so why aren’t people more worried about these overcharges?
It is certainly not OK.
