Nilesh, in what way have I offended anyone by stating facts here? If you have a chance to take a taxi driven by a local Singaporean Indian, do ask him how he felt about the Indian FTs in general. Many local Singaporean Indians will tell you that they feel "discriminated" in their own countries because of the attitude of some of these mainland Indians. I'm not making this up. Even SM Goh himself couple of years ago made a statement in public asking the Indian FTs here to "tone down" their attitudes. I believe the word he used was a Malay word "attas" describing them, meaning that they bear a "superior" attitude.

I have no problems with genuine Indian immigrants really wanting to immigrate to Singapore and bother to intergrate into Singapore society plus sending their sons to NS. Yes, some do. But I have a problem with mainland Indians coming to Singapore bringing their age-old caste culture into Singapore thinking that because they are of "Brahmin" caste, they are superior. Go ask any Singaporeans if we welcome this kind of immigrants or not. You can sensor off my msg here but you are just trying to sweep the problems under the carpet by pretending that it doesn't exist. Unfortunately, my friend, these social issues are here now in Singapore!

This is very easy to rebutt. The Billions were not made through present leadership. I recall in end 2004 that one of the NMP questioned the drop in investment return from 9 to 2billions(?), rather than acknowledging a short coming due to the new managment team, Lim Hwee Hua justified with 6 billion(?) on 5 year average. But no matter what, it indicated a dropped in the effectiveness of their investment strategy since the change over.

Worse was done when Temasek jump onto the USA banks just when they fell. Even Tom Dick and Harry knew at that time it was very bad strategy. They then sold the shares when the price were at the bottom, simply put, buy high sell low. Considering them to be "investment experts", their credentials are questionable. Yet nothing has been done to the managment team which led to such blood splatter on Temasek account.

The worst is Goodyear resignation even before he formally take over Temasek, although nothing was revealed, it indicated a reluctant in Temasek to make changes that Goodyear wanted, and Goodyear was squeezed out.

The discussion is hard to follow given the way they are posted here.

But generally speaking, immigrants, especially first generation immigrants should refrain from debating with the local populace on macro-economic and political matters. All immigrants require much time to understand the nuances of the general populace before embarking on debates with the local popuace and this requires much time to live, breathe and understand the history of the country, culturally, economically and on political terms.

The PAP are desperate to garner support from the local populace for the last 2-4 decades. They may have won the elections but almost everyone knows that the alternative parties are the ones that atract the crowds during electioneering when the country's 50+ years of emergency rule is relaxed to allow for the populace to partake in the election buildup.

Any immigrant that has so much to say about cultural, economic and political issues should actually go back to their land of birth and do their best there. If these immigrants are truly the answer then they should provide the answers in their own homeland.

If you are indeed of such a high calibre then why not FIRST do your good deeds in your own homeland before venturing overseas/overland?

The answer is that you are not even a patriot to your own land of birth and yet you expect yourself as an immigrant to want others to believe that your sayings are those belonging to a person that cares for a foreign land?

Your intentions may be good but having respect to others when you go into their homes is utmost in all societies and even within animal kingdoms.

You bring nothing new to the table. All you are is a mouthpiece of the diabolical fascist political party that has oppressed the opposition parties for 50+ years.

You are like a South Indian coming to China and telling the people what to do with their land and culture and impinging onto their economic, social and political umbrella. Think and do what you deem right but do it within your own PERSONAL surrounding and stop spreading your own foreign and unwanted ideas here.

Trust me, you wouldn't want me to go to your homeland and tell you what you should or shouldn't do, economically or politically.
 
The argument that if HDB flats were built by local workers instead of foreign workers would have cost a lot more like a bomb have been roundly refuted by no less than Minister Mah Bow Tan himself. It's market subdisy. Not cost subsidy. Having flats built by foreign workers at lower wages means more profits for HDB and the government, double up with foreign workers' levies. The cost savings is not passed on as discount to buyers as price is based on market, not cost. And if you want to want buy a second time direct after selling the first one direct from HDB, the 20% or so resale levy wipes you out of practically whatever benefits or enhancements the government promised you. If you buy in open resale market, be prepared to pay out every penny you got for selling your original flat and owe some more in mortgage. If you sell and don't buy again, congrats. You can have a few hundred thousand dollars and live in the streets.
