SINGAPORE — A popular food court at Kovan, which counts Punggol Nasi Lemak as one of its tenants, has been ordered to shut for one day on Friday (Oct 6) by the National Environment Agency (NEA) .

Mee Sek Food Court accumulated 12 demerit points over the past year for failing to provide soap in its toilet, leading to the one-day suspension, NEA said in a suspension notice on its website.

The notice showed that the eating house at 965-969 Upper Serangoon Road was given six demerit points on two occasions for failing to provide soap. But NEA did not say when the food court was caught flouting the regulations.

Mee Sek Food Court was also fined S$800 by NEA for the offences. All of its food stalls, which includes a Hokkien Prawn Mee stall, and Fishball Noodles stall, are affected by the suspension.

Under NEA's demerit points system, the licences of coffeeshops, food courts and canteens may be suspended if the main operators accumulate 12 or more demerit points over a 12-month period.

I hope they utilize the one-day suspension to go buy some soap.
