In other countries, promotion of top-ranked soldiers are based on war heroics, bravery, leadership. In Singapore, it is organization of NDP.

In some countries it's based on connection and who your father is or what is your surname or which political party is in power...eg Thailand.

Rumour has it that the bloke originally chosen as the parade commander was asked to step down suddenly as he is one of those involved in the underaged gal scandal but yet to be charged in court. Don't know how true this is.

In Thailand, there is "proper" use of the Army in quashing opposition. But at least they use it and not for parades

That was also what I heard and this could affect his carrying out of his NDP's responsibilities.
