President Nathan conferred scout association's highest award

SINGAPORE: President S R Nathan, who is also the Chief Scout of the Singapore Scout Association, has been awarded its highest award - the Distinguished Service Award Gold or DSA Gold.

President Nathan was honoured for his outstanding contributions to scouting in Singapore and to the World Organization Scout Movement.

The next highest award, the DSA Star to Silver - which is for exceptionally good service - was awarded to Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, the association's Chief Commissioner.

Mr Tan hopes the award will encourage more volunteers to contribute to society.

He said: "This award is a great honour to me personally. I hope that such recognition that the association gives to volunteers will motivate and inspire more volunteers to come forward and serve younger people."

Later, at the Istana, President Nathan also conferred the Distinguished Service Award on 99 recipients. He also launched the centennial book - "100 years of Scouting in Singapore".

Next time, some PAPists will confer him the People's President Award. LOL

I doubt the Prataman knows how to tie a reef knot, let alone give a Scout's salute.

The President of the Republic of Singapore is the Chief Scout, by default... Whether Prataman likes it or not.

It's just a ceremonial title! The late President Sheares was also the Chief Scout. Many scouts would have polished the silverware at the Istana at one time or other. Mr Prataman of course would be very pleased. It's such a great honour. But as to whether he anyhow received awards, what's new? As the President, everyone wants to give him a title, including me. How about Chief Prata or Chief Ah Neh!:D

I heard the Prataman sold off all the silverware at the Istana when he became Prataman (not President) in the thieves market at Sungei Road, because he eats from banana leaves.

All scouts know how to steal chickens. And share with the guides. :D

Prataman must have taught the scouts how to flip roti pratas, that is why he got the award?

What have he done, to deserve that award??? I know, when scout week comes along...they polish his........ ha ha ha ha:D

Nest he will receive the top award from the Girl Guides movement locally & Internationally...:D
