President Nathan conferred scout association's highest award
SINGAPORE: President S R Nathan, who is also the Chief Scout of the Singapore Scout Association, has been awarded its highest award - the Distinguished Service Award Gold or DSA Gold.
President Nathan was honoured for his outstanding contributions to scouting in Singapore and to the World Organization Scout Movement.
The next highest award, the DSA Star to Silver - which is for exceptionally good service - was awarded to Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, the association's Chief Commissioner.
Mr Tan hopes the award will encourage more volunteers to contribute to society.
He said: "This award is a great honour to me personally. I hope that such recognition that the association gives to volunteers will motivate and inspire more volunteers to come forward and serve younger people."
Later, at the Istana, President Nathan also conferred the Distinguished Service Award on 99 recipients. He also launched the centennial book - "100 years of Scouting in Singapore".
