Nasi lemak seller charged me $1 when I asked for more chilli

That's just like them isn't it?
Treat the symptom not cure the disease.

I was a police officer off duty at that time. It didn't bother me much. I just walked over to this neighbourhood friend and said, OK enough, can go home now, later if patrol car on duty comes, you've got trouble.

He turned around and whilst leaving, shouted out loud, if anyone dares to call police, no need live or do business in this neighbourhood already.

As police, even off duty, why didn't I do more? Firstly, surely he's a friend. Secondly, it didn't even bother the onlookers much. In fact, there were cheers and laughters. Half of those seated the tables in the hawker centre and loitering outside were either his gang members or friends. Thirdly, I think it's good for that smuggie to be taught a lesson.

Does "culvet" and "cul-de-sac" mean the same thing?

Cul-de-sac is dead end lane. When someone challenges you there, it implies fight till back to the wall. Culvet is underground tunnel, it implies fight mano-a-mano no holds barred away from others not concerned. Roughly the same implication.

Thanks for the clarification.
I think oldman said "cul-de-sac", not "culvert". He certainly said "knuckledusters".
Btw, back to your post about the noodle seller, I actually think the guy who threw the stools did the right thing. He responded to a bully. Too often, people are bullied by someone and back down, because they are too afraid to respond. As we all know, bullies are usually cowards, as proven by the noodle seller.

Yup. Actually there are many such places charge this and that for extra sauce/water. But many customer keep quite and never go back to the same place again. But only small/minority will go to the extend to tear down the shop name/signboard.

The only place that I know of that would charge for water was the Muslim Restaurant on the same road as Zam Zam/Victory(famous for its Murtabak). They've been around since way back from the 60's.

I think they are finally closed arounf 200X? I think the people got too old to run the place & not from any boycott :D

You can't get away with anything in Spore :)

LKY always prefer to use cul-de-sac instead of culvert. Apparently, he likes the idea of pinning his enemy to the wall more than the idea of going underground. He speaks loudy, wears knuckledusters and carry a hatchet. US Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt preferred to speak softly but carry a big stick.
