School fee is free or low. But parents think free or low school fee is no good. They spend hundreds of dollars on private tuition fees. Ah, free is no good. That's how they perceive the kindness of the PAP government.

during my time, primary school fee was only 50c a mth. during recess, the school distributed free nutritious milk. students just need to bring containers which they could even fill it to the brim to bring home to drink.

the gov then wasn't as wealthy as now by the way. yet, there were so many freebies to promote education.
