A month after the party decided to withdraw support for Muhyiddin Yassin, it has now announced that it is withdrawing support for his government as well.
PETALING JAYA: Umno has decided to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government barely a month after it officially retracted support for Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
The move leaves the PN government, which is heavily dependent on Umno’s support, in limbo.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a press conference, has again pushed for Muhyiddin to resign.
“Muhyiddin must take the responsibility for the failures under his leadership by stepping down,” he told reporters after an Umno Supreme Council meeting this evening.

“He must also step down for refusing to heed the King’s directive,” Zahid said, referring to the King’s call to debate the emergency ordinances.

Also at the press conference were former prime minister Najib Razak, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and Barisan Nasional’s secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
Pengerang MP and Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said and Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar were also present.
Zahid went on to say that there were sufficient statutory declarations from Umno MPs declaring that they were withdrawing support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.

He said he had also presented them to the King.
“This shows Muhyiddin does not have the majority.”
On July 8, Umno withdrew support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister and called on him to step down after the government failed to fulfil the two requirements that the party had set to justify support for Muhyiddin’s administration.
They were: realising the aspirations of the people and addressing the economic slowdown; as well as coming up with an effective plan to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zahid also said Muhyiddin’s statement that the emergency ordinances would be brought to the Dewan Rakyat in September to be debated – in line with the King’s wishes – failed to clear the air.
“The government has clearly contradicted and mocked the King who has on numerous occasions called for the emergency ordinances to be debated before Aug 1 and not in September.”

what a joke, its zahid who is facing a crumbling support base. He is turning sour because Muhyiddin refuse to change the charges he is facing and neither offer him a post.

Malaysia in urgent need of Chinese to lead them out the turmoil. Just send any of our opposition leaders over to stabilise the country.

Matland political situation nowadays is very fluid. There will be extensive horse trading going on between both the Government and the Opposition , enticing some greedy MPs to join their cause with promises of perks and positions. Muhydin desperate to cling on to power will do everything possible to save his already tarnished Premiership. He has that cunning Azmin to do the dirty work for him. Even Azmin himself has eyes on the hot seat. UMNO wants to lead the country again. With UMNO in power, Najib and his fellow corrupt kaki Langs will escape jail. Nearly man Anwar as usual will be eager to pounce on any collapse of the present Government. And don't forget Mahathir who is hell bent on not wanting Anwar to become the PM as he himself wants to be the PM for the 3rd time. Chaotic times for Malaysia. This is way better than the Game of Thrones

LOL I remember just a few years ago a Malaysian colleague was boasting to me how the people have spoken and they have finally woken up and use their empowerment to vote out Najib. There was also an element of sneering at Singaporeans for not being a democracy the next day after election results.

Hope he's enjoying his Malaysia democracy and people's power now. >_<

That point is still valid nevertheless.

When there is a big change, there will be a period of volatility until everyone get used to a new order. The big mistake was anwar's wife declining PM job as her party won biggest seat, giving it to dr m instead.
If she had taken it, there would be no turmoil and everything would have been sorted. Dr m single handedly destroyed what could have been.
