Motor Traders Association president Cheah Kim Teck, however, felt that these were "piecemeal" measures and urged the authorities to take "bolder steps to smoothen out the numbers".
"If you look at the car population figures, about 100,000 cars will reach the age of nine to 10 years old in the next three to four years," he said.

Mr Cheah added that, with some advance planning, the authorities could spread out the "potential de-registration numbers so that there won't suddenly be a big jump in the quota and it can be stable".

"It's like starving for a week, then eating a week's worth of food in a day. Why not have food every day?" he said.

I have been saying this countless times,,PAP does not want COE to go down as its a revenue generator,,they will lose money, so why would they want to break their own rice bowl? COE become 1 Million,,means they have 1 million more,,,enough for HC to gamble on more investments,,,
Want change, boot out the PAP,,thanks 60%

already the roads are jammed full of cars....sell more and the whole island becomes a big carpark
they are just trying to sell more COEs at these high prices,
why they never increase COEs when the prices started creeping up at 30K? knnccb,
now prices seems to be coming down with a slowing economy, they just want to sell more COEs at these riduculous prices.

Reduce the number of people on this small peesai island, and problems of congestion on the roads/parking space scarcity will be solved immediately.

No point fiddling around with COE prices or ERP gantries. They won't solve the fundamental problem - overcrowding.

1. Remove the ERP. Tripple the road tax.ERP quite dangerous because many slow down when near ERP granty in expressway.
2. Increase parking rate by 3 times for monthly and hour charge.

It will solve car problem. The buyer will think twice before buy the car because parking also expensive. SG parking rate really dirt cheap if compare to other city.
