Motor Traders Association president Cheah Kim Teck, however, felt that these were "piecemeal" measures and urged the authorities to take "bolder steps to smoothen out the numbers".
"If you look at the car population figures, about 100,000 cars will reach the age of nine to 10 years old in the next three to four years," he said.
Mr Cheah added that, with some advance planning, the authorities could spread out the "potential de-registration numbers so that there won't suddenly be a big jump in the quota and it can be stable".
"It's like starving for a week, then eating a week's worth of food in a day. Why not have food every day?" he said.
