M'sian jailed a month for stealing, cheating casino

By Khushwant Singh

GOH Wing Wal came here as a tourist and visited the Marina Bay Sands casino at 10am on March 12 this year. It was not known how much money the 30-year-old had on him but by 2pm, he had lost it all.

About 20 minutes later, he saw Mr How Yew Hock betting a $100 chip on the Sic Bo table, which is a game of three dice. When Mr How went over to observe the next table, Goh moved the chip from its bet on 'Big' to the number 'Four'. There were two dice with that number and he won $200 with the stolen chip.

In the meantime, Mr How had noticed that his bet had gone missing and informed the croupier. The closed-circuit television footage was reviewed and revealed the identity of the culprit. Goh, who was still in the casino was handed over to the police.

On Tuesday, he was jailed two weeks for theft and a month for duping the casino into paying him $300. District Judge Roy Neighbour ordered the jail terms to run concurrently so the total sentence is a month.
