Hong Kong's public housing is limited and I understand there is a long queue to get a rental public housing. Other housing options to Hong Kongers are (1) Renting (private property) from others, (2) Buy private properties or (3) stay with parents.
Generally the cost of living in Hong Kong is low, makan is cheap, transport is cheap and electronic products are cheaper as most are water goods. Upkeep of cars are also cheap as I heard (could anyone confirm this?) they run on diesel engines.
Private housing in Hong Kong starts from 600K Singapore Dollars onwards. With its rising prices, most Hong Kongers opt to stay with parents or save up to buy a small private apartment less than 900 square feet. Rental is also an option but rental prices starts from 3000 Singapore Dollars onwards. Some expats frown at the prospect of a Hong Kong posting as a bulk of their pay package goes to paying of housing rental.
Mr Goh Meng Seng, what do you do in Hong Kong for a living to upkeep yourself?
