NTUC has also seen more cases of layoffs owing to business restructuring in recent years. In 2025, NTUC handled over 3,900 retrenchment and termination-related cases for PMETs which is 5% more than in 2024. The offshoring and relocation of foreign companies as well as AI were blamed, but no mention was made of the almost 2 million foreigners in S'pore.

MOM has predictably reported that the majority of layoffs are tied to reorganisation of companies, cost-cutting and shifts in global demand, rather than direct displacement by foreign workers. There are 650,000 CECAs in S'pore, which means that hundreds of thousands of PMET jobs were lost to Indian nationals alone. How many more have been signed away to the 1.91 million non-S'poreans living here, and how many are new S'poreans?

Sg got union meh ??? Rofl....
After coming into power, the PAP govt predictably amended the law to give the govt more power to disband unions. Following a wave of strikes in 1963, the govt arrested leftist union leaders and de-registered the SATU-affiliated unions. This dismantling of left-wing and independent labour groups left only state-aligned unions. The resulting NTUC became a sham union since its leaders were installed by the PAP, shifting it from worker militancy to national economic development.

Even though SkillsFuture provides subsidies, the older workers whom I know shared that training alone often doesn't result in immediate employment. In reality, the systemic biases, skills-experience mismatches and those paper qualifications from short courses cannot compete with fresh grads, younger and tech-savvy talent who are also seeking employment. SkillsFuture only prepares us for future continued unemployment or underemployment.

Skillsfuture certs are not recognized by the private sector.
Look at job descriptions online and see what certs are requested by the organization, most are professional certs issued by American companies, Shitgapore certs have zero value in 2026

Coursea has some really good online course that are accredited by reputable Universities or higher learning institutions

Our country keeps saying there are jobs, true.

But many white-collars suffered 1/3 to 50% pay cuts after retrenched.
