SINGPORE: Closed circuit cameras will be installed near the bus bay next to Clementi MRT station to deter illegal parking and waiting, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said on Monday.
Mr Lui revealed this in a written parliamentary reply to MP for West Coast GRC Arthur Fong, who asked how authorities plan to manage traffic jams near Clementi MRT station.
Mr Lui said the Land Transport Authority has also stepped up enforcement against illegal parking and waiting in the area.
This comes in the wake of a fatal accident that occurred on 23 April, where a 42-year-old housewife was hit and dragged by a bus at Clementi Avenue 3.
Mr Lui said infrastructure improvements were implemented before the opening of the Clementi Integrated Transport Hub to cater to the anticipated increase in traffic near Clementi MRT station.
He said this included additional exclusive turning lanes for traffic turning into different parts of the hub, as well as extended bus bay and junction widening at Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi Avenue 3.
