a week later, a young lady climbed down from half dome in the same park after reaching the top, slipped on the cable on a steep incline, and fell hundreds of feet to a rocky death. half dome is more than 5000 feet up the valley floor which is more than 4000 feet above sea level. total elevation of half dome is close to 10k feet. final ascent from rocky shoulder is almost vertical up a set of cables for several hundred feet. a climber needs to pull oneself up on cable before reaching summit. on way down, it's the same set of cables for descent. too many morons and darwinian award recipients died on half dome for not respecting weather conditions and slippery rocks on way down.
