To prepare for possible floods this year I wish to get a 4x4 diesel. Reason is cars are basically sitting ducks in flood situation. The purposes of the 4x4 are
(1) transport people from home to safer places,
(2) be mobile and still able to live in home no need to evacuate,
(3) have some space to transport large suitcases not big household items.

Always love the Toyota's Hilux Vigo (6 yr old model) and Isuzu's DMAX (2mths old model). Problem with Toyota is the plan to launch a new model in May is being delayed due to parts suppliers still coping with aftermath of the recent flood and not up to capacity to support new parts for new models. I am practically left with the Isuzu which I liked very much.

However recently I also kind of attracted to the Mitcubishi Pajero Sport (basically a converted pickup truck from Triton into a SUV just like Toyota's Fortuna and Isuzu's MU7. I have studied the practicality of these two and both meet my criteria. But what do you guys think? Here are some pics of the two:

I test drove the Mitsubishi 6 months ago. The turbo lag is awful and the ride is jittery and noisy. My 11 year old Hilux Surf is quieter and smoother with hardly any turbo lag whatsoever.

Haven't tried the Isuzu so I can't comment on that one.

In this case, if SUV, will go for Fortuner 3.0. Will not even consider Mu7 and Pajero. Have to decide if you want a truck or SUV. For transporting large suitcases, think both no problem.

If you want an SUV, this is the ONLY one you should get :

Thank you Samleong and Chonburifc actually you may know I already have an SUV the RX so I don't really need another SUV the thing I really need is a high 4x4 where I could mod the suspension higher to travel on 1m of water. It will be too great and expensive an excercisr if I modify my RX which will look funny too.

After reading Sam's comment on the Mitsubishi I guess I'm now down to Isuzu. Isuzu now waiting time is 2-3 months. I'm planning to order today.

Joetys, the d-max hi-lander can definitely handle flood water up to 0.5 meter for short distaince. For tolerance against higher water level, all you need to do is to mod the exhaust pipe outlet to a higher position. Have seen this mod before but very sure this is not allowed.

Hehehehe. Replace the 'je' in Pajero with 'ke' and it becomes "Pakero'!:D

Ok Ok I already said I won't buy this anymore. So its only left with Isuzu. If have time later will go book. I don't think need to test drive la.

Four doors la. Maid driver, ma and wife, 3 people + 1 dog, 4 doors more sabai la

I am thinking of the dark red colour.
Yeah. Will go for the same color. Be warn first. The rear seats are not as roomy as SUV hor.

Like that maid back seat with doggy, me and wife cockpit. Think I must come Chonburi to fix many accessories.

Ok guys. I just ordered the ISUZU DMAX V-CROSS 3.0 Deisel Turbo (red colour), full option. Dealer threw in 10,000baht discount, front camera, and roof rail. Delivery 2 months.

I have planned to do some modification to my new truck when I get it: (1) raise suspension by 6 inches and change all wheels to larger ones ; (2) install a snorkel.

But what do yo guys think about a winch like this? Looks nice? (I like it for looks not really need to use it)
