Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, but with different desktop manager. Why I switched our users to Mint after using Ubuntu for years, is that there was a period when Ubuntu was trying to push a merged tablet and desktop user interface. It was very confusing for users, and things were changing from release to release.

So for me, I think Linux Mint is a bit more stable, and more familiar to Windows users.

Can use for home, can listen to Spotify. Don’t know about your online broker. If they are using JavaScript, should be ok. You can download and run a live copy of either Ubuntu or Mint to try before installing. Won’t ever cost money.
