After three successful years, one Michelin-starred Whitegrass Restaurant spearheaded by Chef-Owner Sam Aisbett announces its impending closure, slated to take place on 22 December 2018.

The 70-seater restaurant opened its doors at CHIJMES in Singapore in January 2016, and became one of the first to take modern Australian fine dining to Michelin-starred stature in Asia. The restaurant earned its coveted stars in 2017 and 2018. Also in 2018, Whitegrass was voted by industry peers as one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

After three years at CHIJMES, Aisbett and Whitegrass’ investing partners have decided not to renew the lease, though the restaurant is performing at its peak.

Chjimes rent is ridiculously high. To survive in that location, menu price must double. How many sinkees would want to pay at those prices? There are not alot of rich people in sinkapore to support the high-end eating outlets.

1 other point about singkieland real estate is big companies are the ones that that Dominate the real estate scene. So it's basically an oligopoly n there is very minimal competition that is the problem.

I think the business model adopted by rws is the most sustainable of the lot, in terms of fine-dining, as opposed to others in mbs, chimes etc,
everyone pays rental, labour etc but the outlets that rws has, are operated / owned by them and whatever points gained from the casino are applicable for use either in their outlets or cruises (left and right pocket feeding off each other). those that up lorry in mbs were own entities and how many or how often would one fork out $150 pp for lunch at the michelin-starred outlets even if one had a good outing in the casino there? hype can only last for sometime but once patronage dwindles, it's no more glory days, even if 3 stars

If BSK change its prices to $888 for meals and $88 for cocktails, there will lots of table for 8 guests filled up.

$169 total tab per guest is considered cheap for just an overhyped and overrated eatery. for high ses diner like our resident screw salesman $696 total tab per guest is nothing but a drop in the wine bucket.

You're right ...our resident screw sales professional (salesman sounds so low SES) can afford more ...may $888 per head. He is Thai-Chinese after all ...so 888 has more meaning for him and if he is into number superstitution, he will feel rich seeing 8.
