Fuse lit, it's off like a rocket in Yarraville
Date: February 9, 2010
Slow starts don't matter so long as there's a strong finish.

It took a little bit of time for the auction of 51 O'Farrell Street in Yarraville to get rolling after an opening bid was received at $510,000.

"It was slow to start. I think bidders were just seeing who was interested, but after we hit the $550,000 mark it took off," said Hocking Stuart agent Rachel Barrett.

"Towards the end, it went like a rocket."

Thanks to four bidders, the single-fronted, two-bedroom house eventually sold for $684,000 against a reserve of $580,000.

Records show the property sold for $426,000 in July 2007.

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria reports that the median house price for Yarraville rose 20.5 per cent to $602,500 in the year to December.

Melbourne's median house price rose 28.7 per cent to $540,500 during the same period.
