It began with a nasty and admittedly below-belt rumour about Goh Meng Seng (GMS), the NSP Sec-Gen. It was published by someone on the Sammyboy forum and spoke of a metaphorical and charming 20-cents public toilet.
To me, the authenticity of the salacious rumour is immaterial – it is a non-political personal affair for which GMS only needs to be accountable to his own conscience and loved ones. If necessary, he need to sort it out himself.
So this article will NOT be about what GMS did in private. Like everyone, politicians deserve their privacy.
Instead, the main issue at hand is GMS's severe CHARACTER FLAWS.
These manifest themselves in his unbecoming and immature REACTION and lack of self-control when confronted with such circumstances - which is unavoidable in public and political life.
This is especially serious since he is the leader of a political party.
First, instead of maintaining a stolid standoff like every seasoned and astute politician would, GMS dove into the Sammyboy discussion thread flailing .... as only the notoriously hapless GMS would and often did online.
Initially, he tried to sound cool and indifferent:
“Aiyoh! Can your lies and stories be more creative than that or not? I nearly fell asleep reading it...”
..... then, he started to fend off other netizens, accusing them of being gullible and challenged the MSM to republish the bawdy story:
“Haha. I am surprised that people can be so gullible! If he has any truth worth any cents, he wouldn't be hiding behind some nicks. If you want to be your last dollar on what he says, I guess you will definitely be very sorry. He is known to spread vicious lies around here. I stand as politician and of course, I welcome the newspapers to report on what he says. That will make my campaign financing very much easier.”
…..then, as his derogatory tactics were not working, he pretended not to be bothered, although the truth was that he was, as will be seen later:

..... then GMS's sense of self-importance took over and he tried to offer an inane reason why others were spreading rumours about him. He posted a photo of himself posing with Grace Fu:

…... then, he changed tactic and counter-attacked by associating the rumour-monger with Edmund Ng:

And finally, when all else failed, he labeled his attacker a psychopath and mentally ill:

The fact is that the mention of GMS's dead father (....god bless him) in the rumour was very secondary to the storyline – it was merely to set a timeframe to the series of events. Nothing untoward or derogatory was spoken of his deceased father.
GMS conveniently chose NOT to mention the crux of the rumour, which was where the lack of “class and fineness” and barbarism actually was.
Then GMS went down the well-trodden paths into hypocrisy - in another FB post, he went on to protest that:
“This is a strange world whereby faceless nameless people on the internet keep throwing challenges to others who are open with their full name and personal profiles.... hmm.... the cowards throwing challenges to the braves?"

OTHERWISE, you should seriously refrain from repeatedly making such slanderous and damaging allegations against an innocent person!”

He quarrelled with anonymous forummers in the old forum and used harsh words unbefitting and unbecoming of a politician and candidate. He admitted to that and resigned. I post this as a kind and gentle reminder to him.
I see history repeating again
I think he's learned his lesson and getting better now. Whether better enough to actually win an election, it's still up to him, and more importantly how he presents himself to his electorate. If he still wants to win tongue-wagging wars as priority, I fear there's not much hope.

That is not a very accurate assessment of the situations then. You must understand Meng Seng's circumstance in Worker Party to have the fuller picture.
After the general election, a few member of WP have a kind of falling out with Meng Seng, to the point where Meng Seng was often backstab. Eric Tan, Perry Tong, Chia Ti Lik, Yaw Shin Leong, all had bad blood with Meng Seng after a whiles and it was difficult for Meng Seng to continue working there.
You know, people here often says Meng Seng is brash with forum personnel but actually he is already quite polite. He value all his friendship, even though thing turn sour with some party member. He will never say their fault, especially in public always he will say his own fault.
If you know the truth about Meng Seng leaving, you will know how gentleman he is, to shoulder the whole burden himself without a word of complaint. Tills today he love his former party, and he even speak very highly of Low, Sylvia Lim, even Perry, Chia, Eric, etc, who used to badmouth him. He has no long lasting hatred in his heart, he is so quick to forgive and forget. Maybe that why sometime his friend took advantageous of him. I feel sorry for Meng Seng sometime.

Back in the old forum at delphi, there was already plenty of mudslingings going on over GMS's conduct to some elderlies in an AMK coffeeshop. According to eye witnesses, he and some guys threaten a couple of uncles over some misunderstanding. Then a forummer (can't remember the nick) posted a link which indicated GMS had visited this site www.sggirls.com, where all kind saucy pictures of young girls (some even in sec school uniform) that is sexual in nature. You can visit this site to see for yourself. GMS blew his top and launched a tirade against this forummer that is worse that what he did now. TODAY newspaper reported about it and WP Low Thia Khiang called for a meeting to blast GMS and imposed restrictions on internet posting. GMS objected and LowTK asked to fuck off from WP. Chia TL also resigned in protest because he was also very active defending GMS in the forum. After leaving WP, GMS then boasted in the forum that LTK and SL begged him to stay but he wanted to do something "bigger".
GMS then posted in the forum that he wanted to set up a new party by himself. He wanted to name it "New Workers' Party". All the WP forum members promptly fucked him upside down, and he abandon the idea. Then he joined NSP and bragged about his plan to set up a training course for training politicians and he will act as a "mentor" for them. Yes, don't laugh, that is what he posted in the forum. Well, this loud-mouth egoistic I-am-better-than-everyone GMS abandon his plan when he find that it was the joke of the town.
