THE North East Community Development Council has set itself an ambitious target: to raise $3 million from sponsors by 2012 to help 24,000 needy residents.
But it is not stopping at that.
Its Mayor Teo Ser Luck said the CDC will match dollar-for-dollar, potentially doubling the kitty for it various assistance programmes to $6 million.
The lofty goal is believed to be one of the highest ever set - Central Singapore CDC last month announced it is embarking on a $1 million fund-raising drive.
The 'stretched target' in the words of Mr Teo is important in today's context of a widening income gap.
'The income gap is inevitable, but what we can do is to get more of the well-off to help the less well-off,' he said.

SGreans are fools to believe in schemes like these. If the donations only amount to $100K, the government just need to provide $100K? SGreans should question why can't the government just provide the $3M without having to go on the donation drive since that amount has already been set aside. Perhaps they need to raise money for their investment funds aka punting account, to invest in assets like Lehman Bros products.

What a joke, got $millions to pay FT trash PRC for commonwealth games medals, got no money to help 24,000 needy residents? Fuck Kuan Yew and the PAP, they need to get their priorities right. He rather 24,000 people not have enough to eat, as long as his pets bring home some shit medals from a 3rd class competition.

Our Garment has always maintain that the country reserve is for future generation.
We are not a welfare state . meaning we have to look after ourself.
No one owe us a living. It may be crude and lack compassion but that what PAP mean to our voter.

which future generation is now anybody guess, PR/ Ft? or present true blooded Sporean.

I feel sorry for many unemployed PMET who end up having to drive taxi.
They are not asking for welfare but can they really feed their children and have a decent life??
We are no better than a third world country honestly

Goodness' grief! They need to do that to raise S$3m for 24,000 needy residents? They simply signed over more than that for 1 President or 1 PM or 1 MM or 1 SM, each! They must be very needy indeed.

dun 4get gst was oso raised 2 help ze poor! ...

They are trying to recoup some monies from the poor to reward the foreign atheletes who won medals from the commonwealth game. I heard the amounts swell by million. This is typical PAP style of mismatching funds allocation from helping needy Singaporean to rewarding unncessary fame of Foreigners.

$3mil divide by 24,000 is a petty sum of $125 per resident. Even with 1-1 match from Government, it's $250. I wonder what they expect these citizens to cover with $250?

They must think that Singaporeans are bangalas. They give away more than 2000 times that amount to FT at CWG, a minister earns 10,000 times that amount and this government overspend 3,000,000 times that amount in a stupid YoG.

Is this a government who has your interest and welfare at heart? Is this a government capable of looking after its own citizens?:oIo:

And they say $3mil is a stretch goal... Thank God I'm not Teo Ser Luck, if I'm as incompetent as he is, I would have lost my job.

Mr Teo, you donate 1/2 your salary and get each of your MP to donate 20%. You'll hit your goal with the 1-1 matching from Government. Even with 1/2 your salary, you will still live more comfortably than 90% of Singaporeans.

NEWS RELEASE
GLP TO BUILD TWO HOPE SCHOOLS IN CHINA TO COMMEMORATE LISTING
ON SGX-ST
Singapore, October 18, 2010
- Global Logistic Properties Limited (“GLP” or “the Company”), ......announced that it would build two more Hope Schools in China, particularly in areas impacted by recent natural disasters like floods and earthquakes to commemorate its listing on the Main Board of Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (“SGXST”).

GLP commenced trading on the Main Board of SGX-ST today......To demonstrate the Company’s long-term commitment to give back to the local communities in which it operates, GLP has donated to the GLP Hope School Fund one
RMB for every square meter that it invests in China. For every 500,000 square
meters of industrial space that the Company builds, GLP has built and donated a Hope School in the remote and under-developed regions of China.
This CSR programme was implemented in 2006 by our China subsidiary, then led by the Company’s current management team. To-date, five Hope Schools have been completed and the sixth Hope School is currently under construction. Altogether, this community initiative has resulted in around 6,200 sqm of gross floor area (“GFA”) of classrooms, teachers’ offices, dormitories, playgrounds, sports facilities, washrooms as well as walking paths that help children get to school safely. They serve a total of 1,312 children in five different provinces.
In 2007, the first three Hope Schools were commenced in Wuzhou, Guangxi as well as Zhongning and Tongxin, both located in Ningxia province. The fourth Hope School -in Wafangdian, Dalian –started in 2008 and fifth School in Shiping, Yunnan in 2009.The sixth Hope School commenced construction in Luoyang, Henan in July this year.

With the two additional Hope Schools to mark GLP’s successful listing in Singapore, this brings the total number of Hope Schools funded by GLP to eight.
Mr Ming Z Mei, GLP’s Chief Executive Officer said: “......

Which party do you recommend that I vote? Which party is the most libertarian?

Shall we force MM to retire ? We can easily raise $3 million.

Plus two SMs, another $6 million in the kitty.

Wow....just a stroke of pen, we have raised $9 million.

So if the Government forces MM and the two SMs to retire, the whole of Singapore will match the total of the 3 ministers' pay - dollar for dollar. That is $18 million raised at one go.

Exercise your rights, it doesnt matter which party so long as it's not the papsmear. you will be doing your country a great service.

$6 million helps 24,000 needy people. $400 million (the amount spend on YOG) will help 1.6 million people!! Imagine that.

Errrr...Ah Teo ar.

What happen to the over S$400 million you threw away in one month during the YOG?

Any left over or not?
:D
