A Malaysian man from Terengganu has drawn widespread attention online after marrying a second wife who was previously his first wife’s friend.
The decision was made openly and with the first wife’s consent.

The story, which recently went viral on TikTok after the husband shared footage of his second marriage, has sparked debate about polygamy, trust and emotional boundaries in marriage.
“Of course I was sad”
The first wife, Shuhadah Jaafar, said she was initially devastated when her husband, Muhammad Azizi Zakaria, told her he had developed feelings for her friend and wanted to marry her.

She said: “When I found out my husband had feelings for my friend and wanted to marry her, of course I was sad.”
She added that she took time to think through the situation carefully, according to Harian Metro.
Shuhadah had known the second wife, Nor Azura Mohd Azmin, after ordering clothes from her boutique, and the two later became friends who only occasionally met at events.
She admitted she was shocked when her husband named her friend as the woman he wished to marry.
“Which wife would want to be in a polygamous marriage?”
She explained that she eventually agreed because her husband was "honest" and wanted to make the relationship "lawful rather than secret".
Husband said decision to marry again not driven by lust
Shuhadah said her husband explained that his intention to remarry was not driven by lust, but because he ran a business with Nor Azura and wanted to do what he believed was right.

She also said she sympathised with her co-wife, who had gone through difficult experiences in the past.
“My husband and my co-wife already had feelings for each other, so I gave my permission because matters of the heart are not easy.”
She said she feared something improper might happen between them if she refused. She also chose to share news of the marriage publicly online to avoid gossip and to set an example.
“Be honest with your first wife. Don’t take it lightly by marrying secretly or across the border,” she said, referring to men who marry again without informing their wives.
Shuhadah said she hopes people will not label her co-wife as a “homewrecker”, adding that Nor Azura has treated her and her child well.
“It is easier because my co-wife was already my friend, so it is smoother to build compatibility, and now our relationship is getting closer.”

She said her main hope is that the both of them will be treated fairly.
Feelings developed unexpectedly
Muhammad Azizi said he always knew his wives were friends and never intended to damage their relationship.
According to him, his feelings for his second wife developed unexpectedly.
“To avoid anything improper from happening, I decided to marry her to make the relationship lawful,” he said, echoing what Shuhadah said.
He said he tried to fight the feelings and distance himself, but eventually chose honesty.
“My heart was already attached, so I decided to be honest with my first wife, ask for her permission, and follow the proper process.”

He added that he was deeply touched when his first wife personally applied to the Syariah Court to support his second marriage.
Second wedding
In a TikTok video showing scenes from his second wedding, Muhammad Azizi reflected on the legal process.
He wrote:

“Looking back, the process of applying for polygamy at the Syariah High Court was not easy. However, praise be to Allah, by his will, everything was made smooth.
“Tears fell when the application was approved.”
He said the judge repeatedly told him that “the greatest appreciation should go to your wife”.
Muhammad Azizi said his first wife even allowed the second marriage to take place at their own home instead of a mosque.
He asserted that he rejected suggestions to marry secretly in Thailand.
“Don’t hide it if you want to marry again, because it will only damage your relationship with your partner.”
Netizen reaction
The viral video and story have drawn mixed reactions online, with most saying they could never be in a polygamous relationship themselves.
There were also humorous responses, with one photoshopping herself into the picture and asking, “Who supports me becoming number 3?”.
