There's actually several theories on his status:
PAP: He escaped into thin air
SDP: He died in custody (then what was the need to announce his "escape" for? For people to curse WKS?)
Gopalan: He escaped and is a hero (unless of course he bombs an American taget)
WP: Took the view that he died under custodoy, then withdrew this theory
So if you are not bothered, you should take the SDP's story and think he died under custody. Unless you want to know the minute by minute story of how he died.
If you are bothered, then you take the PAP story. But still blame the PAP anyway
If you are bothered and yet happy, you take then crazy Gopalan story and hoep that our dear Mas was not a terrorist ad Gopi said so.
