SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, the radio subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings, today announced that it has terminated the services of The Married Men with immediate effect, citing breach of the terms of its contract.
SPH UnionWorks and The Married Men Pte Ltd entered into a contract in 2007 for The Married Men to initially produce the Evening Drive Time show and later, as of March 2010, the Morning Drive Time show.
This action was taken in connection with a "Kena Pluck" humour segment which aired on Thursday, 17 January, 2013, during the Morning Drive Time show on Hot FM91.3. The segment contained material that was wholly inappropriate on air and breached the terms of the contract.
Mr Jamie Meldrum, Senior Programme Director at SPH UnionWorks, said: "As much as it pains us to take this action after having worked with them for so many years, the segment that was aired was indefensible and we had to take the matter seriously. We apologise to listeners who were offended by it."
Mr Meldrum added: "We know that there are a lot of HOT FM91.3 fans out there who will be disappointed not to be able to listen to The Married Men in the mornings. However, we felt it was the appropriate action for us to take."
