Here is where the policy failure occurred. The PARF policy was replaced by ERF. What was controlled for decades in a streamlined manner with cars allowed as more roads were built suddenly went haywire. Notice the additional gantries were unexpected and rushed thru after someone went thru the CTE one fine day.

The Minister involved is no longer in Government.

The desire to remove the high cost of cars in affordability index for attracting investment and to placate the comments FTs has cost us dearly.
Now you know why forums like this are important. Things like this you never ever find in the local press. Welcome to the wider world. You might want to read carefully as you go alone to come up to speed.

The topic of this thread is actually on many here can't wait for singapore to fail. ERP is just on the many issues, where people have voiced their displeasure.

As the years progress, people became more affluent and many just wants to own cars. So with population increasing, cars increase too.
Removing the high cost of cars in affordability index? Cars in singapore are already very expensive compared to other countries. If its lowered, more will be buying. Now because of the taxes, erps, fuel, insurance, parking which many are complaining, that's why many turned to public transport.

When many drive, traffic jams up. When people don't drive and take public transport, another form of complaints comes up, why are the buses and mrts packed.

The ERP is just one of the topic. I ever did thought before, should ERP be abolished. But if its abolished, gantries removed, what will happen to the jams at ERP areas? Will it be better or will it be worst? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the repercussions.

So whichever way, can there be a win-win situation? Any suggestions?

The number of foreigners have increased too fast and the existing infrastructures are not catching up fast enough to cope with the rapid expansion of population through immigration.

Short-term solution is to control immigration and long-term solution to expand infrastructure - both physical and social

If you read thru the threads and posts, you would have spotted some excellent suggestion. When you buy a durian, you eat the pulpy flesh, not the thorns nor the seeds.

So instead of looking for thorns, look for the pulpy flesh.

Here are the suggestion
1) Reduce no of cars on the road
2) Increase it as roads are built and are able to accommodate cars
3) Limit ERPs to CBD as it where most cars head towards
4) Regulate Autoloan financing which was deregulated by MAS in 1992

Here is the last piece of advice. Don't expect the Government to do all the thinking for you. You have to provide your feedback and then they can fine tune things. The Government cannot operate in a vacumn.

Clap, clap. clap !

few days ago, Old fart said there will be more alternative voices at the parliament sitting, why suddenly he said so ? He is still a PM? So, does that not mean we are very stifled ?

Did not the old fart calling political opponents names---Mr francis seow would tell you more (to catch a tartar).

PAP regime is acting like a boss in a company where everyone has to agree with what they say, you talk too much, you get sued bankrupt. Is this a healthy environment? The next thing our younger generation does is, at all costs, they must win even they have to bring their friends down.

Which Govt hates their native people and lick foreigners like a dog?

Talk about ERP, Raymond only did a stopgap measure to make sure FTs and rich drivers and tour buses drive smooth to their offices and attractions.
Car population will grow with human population.
Did not PAP bastards augment wontonly the sinkapore population to dilute the locals to stay competitive??
Raymond Lim dares not face the truth! How many PRs and FTs are owning cars ???? LTA will not dare to reveal the true figure.
ERP is just an excuse to hurt those who have just enough to drive --mostly the local middle-class sinkaporeans.

PAP govt is synonymous to Pol-Pot regime, except PAP uses more complicated method to destroy its own people who speak up against them.

At least Pol-pot regime is more down -to -earth to really smash people they hate, and gentlemanly call itself not a democratic regime.

PAP, however, is a coward, hide under a unique veneer, to stifle people who speak up the truth.

So where do people vent their woes, police stations? istana? oxley hill?

After old fart has passed away, things will change....is not too late to praise PAP or compare Apple to apple after independant auditors thoroughly vet through the public account books.

meanwhile, is good for forummers to vent out their pent-up anger in a cyberspace to avert heart diseases.....

cheers, it's already 84, celebration time is near......
