Man kills himself with homemade bomb on Dak Lak street

A 29-year-old man committed suicide by exploding a homemade bomb on a street in Buon Ma Thuot town Sunday.

Two other people were injured and a passing truck was damaged in the incident that took place at around 10:30 p.m. on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.

Do Phong, who was at a nearby café with his friends, managed to film the incident with his mobile phone.

“The man ran into the street and shouted that he was committing suicide. He threw a bomb on the street twice but it did not explode.

“But it then exploded as a truck passed by, blowing him away. Two people in the truck ran out terrified.”

According to the Dak Lak Province police, their deputy director Pham Minh Thang was injured in the hand in the blast as he attempted to calm Minh down. A security guard at a nearby company was seriously injured.

Police identified the dead man as Nguyen Van Minh of Lak District, who had quarreled with his wife before the blast.

They found another bomb on his body.

Minh’s relatives said his wife had moved to Buon Ma Thuot after fighting with him, leaving behind their two children. He often visited her and quarreled, they said.

Before killing himself, Minh visited his wife at a hotel nearby and they quarreled again.

The hotel owner said Minh had locked the door and said he would set off a bomb when he was told not to be noisy.

The police are continuing to investigate.
