Man jailed nine months for CBT of $39K

A FORMER accounts and administrative assistant of a company was jailed for nine months on Monday for misappropriating $39,663.
Oswald Ong Thomas, 33, was working for Climb Asia, a company in the business of providing rock climbing-related facilities and training courses, when he committed a criminal breach of trust of cash sales at Civil Service Club, Tessensohn Road, between March 20 and April 30 last year. He pleaded guilty.
A court heard that a director of the company lodged a report on May 11 last year after discovering that Thomas had failed to deposit the company's cash sales into the bank account.
Thomas admitted that he had taken the amount for his personal expenses.
The hearing-impaired man, who was born a girl and underwent a sex-change operation four years ago, could have been jailed for up to 15 years and fined for the offence.
