Lee Yong Pin, 31, was sentenced to three months' jail on Monday for stealing 12 stingrays worth $40,000.

He had acted with accomplice Ong Zixian, 22, whose case is still pending, reported The Straits Times.

Lee had originally been charged with housebreaking and theft by night with Ong, but he had pleaded guilty to the amended charge of theft.

The court heard that both of them had gone to the victim, Chow Phee Song's shop at Serangoon North Avenue 4 in the early hours of July 30.

Ong went to the shop and made away with the 12 live stingrays while Lee waited nearby.

A third party, known only as Tan, picked Ong up in his lorry and they headed for Ong's home.

Lee was arrested the next day at Ong's unit and all the stolen stingrays were recovered.

He could have faced a maximum jail sentence of seven year and fined for theft.
